Go 525. 530 is more expensive, because there's more metal to it.

Man, this thread makes me feel so stupid. Haha.
4 years and 4 bikes and I have no idea on this stuff. What. The. Hell.
So I'm lookin' at BostonMoto's website... and they have sprockets with (520), (525), and (530). So, bear with me hurr, I take it that these correspond w/ the chain size because of the width of the chain? (See, I swear, I'm trying to get educated... next week, I can post a thread about oil... syn vs. dino? then which synthetic to get!) :banghead:

Yep. You match chain size with tooth size. 520 chain, 520 sprockets, etc...
BTW, you can search here on oil types. It's what the search feature is for. :poke:

Re: Can someone help me with a chain & sprocket install?
yes you will have to get a matching sprocket with the chain. 525 chain with 525 sprockets, etc.
your VFR is 530 stock RK chain (clip-on master link)
530 16T front (steel) Sunstar sprocket
530 43T rear (steel) Sunstar sprocket

Yar, I found that info... any reason why I couldn't/shouldn't go to a 525.

not that i can think of. it wont last as long as a 530 chain would....but do you plan on getting another 30k miles on your bike? I would suggest getting a DID 525 VM2 chain (includes rivet master link) and Sunstar (steel) sprockets.
