I went downstairs today to take my 950sm out, 55 degrees seemed like a perfect day...bingo key in and all i hear is a buzzing sound. The battery is fully charged as its on a trickle charger pretty much all the time. I pull the seat off and can feel the buzzing.
I look around and see DOG FOOD....in the back area of my seat..some freaking mouse got into my bike. One week ago everthing was fine, bike running zero issues.
I got the wet dry vac, sucked up most of the food, pulled the rear tail section of to get at the reamaining food. I looked all around and saw no chewed wires, no blow fueses, no harnesses that were pulled apart from what should be in contact, battery connection was tight, nothing looked out of place.
When I put the key on with the bike in neutral, choke on, kill switch in the correct position for a fraction of a second the instrument guage reads 17 mph or something like that...never saw this before, hit the start button and only buzzing.
I pulled out the drop light and removed the battery- checked all around saw nothing, pulled the screws holding the fuse box in place- saw nothing, pulled the screws out that hold the harness in front of the fuse box...still nothing looked out of place. No chew marks, nothing...
I crawled under the bike with the light and and pulled a side cover off just infront of the shifter it covers some connection harness...no chew marks nothing.
Under the right side of the bike, looking up, nothing...no chew marks as far as I can see.
HELP...what do I need to do????

I think the dog food is a red herring. You have a bad battery.
The battery is fully charged, its not a clicking sound which one sometimes gets if you have a dead battery. I am getting a buzzing sound from the relay...
it's a long shot since you said they were at the back of the bike, but because you mentioned the instrument panel screwing up, take the headlight/fairing unit off and check in there. I had a mouse problem with my 690 a few years ago, they got up inside the light housing and chewed thru the casing on a few wires.
Just another place to check![]()
Another vote for dead battery
Put a real charger (not just a trickle charger) on the battery leads. Use a charger that could start the bike by itself. See if it makes a difference.

The Buzzing in the relay means either something is pulling too much current or the relay is bad.
Seized starter motor or engine.
Bad ground
Battery not able to supply the draw.
Fuel injected? The oem fuel pumps have notorious gremlins.

I'd jump it...it does sound like a weak battery.

Fuggin mouse probably drained the battery rippin around the neighborhood while you were at work. The food was just being stored under the seat in the cargo hold for a lunch snack on his ride through the twisties.
Upon closer inspection the dog food was not my pups brand....ding, ding...red herring, probably the former owner also had a mouse or two.
put a charge on the battery and in a few minutes it would crank...
solution, the 6-7 year old battery wont hold a charge, time for a new one..
thanks to all...you have no idea how close I came to pulling the tank off trying to chase down a wire that was grounding out to the frame.
