    Stupid Problem...

    Ok, here's an odd problem.

I changed the oil on my '02 F4i Saturday. Bike was running fine, in fact, I let the engine warm up for a few minutes before I changed the oil and filter.

Once I tightened everything up, I looked at the oil level window and NOTHING. I thought, WTF, that's odd? But I'll see what it looks like after I let it run for a few minutes. I then realized that I was viewing the window while the bike was on the side stand... When I stood the bike up straight, the Window level shows it full.

Now the bike won't start. I killed the freaken battery trying to get it to start! Let it charge all day Sunday and just tried it again. NO LUCK!

The oil light came on while trying to start it, but I figured that was normal until oil got pumped into the new filter.

    Any thoughts on what's wrong?

    TIA!

I would drain a little so the level is between the upper and lower levels.

Also, when you installed the filter, did you put some oil into it first? This way the engine doesn't sit there cranking while the filter is filling up.

Sounds like a sensor issue to me...check the clutch sensor(if there is one), the "tip over" and the kickstand sensor...

the oil light is a pressure light...it wont go off until the engine is running...

Poss a sticky kick stand Kill switch or Tip over sensor Junked Out....even if there was way too much oil in it it would start and run. Check all the wires and plugs you may have knock one off a bit??

Had a bud who lent his bike out and the dude filled it with oil Like FILLED and then rode it it just was Pissing out the exhaust....so

Tap the sensor a few times may allow it to start.....

ya, i dont think the oil level is an issue as long as you can see the line...it will drop a little once you start it and everythign fills up

I didn't... Didn't read about that until AFTER I had the problem...

just a thought, like they said the oil pressure shouldn't keep it from turning over....but just in case you dont already, its a good idea to measure out the oil as you pour it in. I've never had any luck or trust using a sight glass or dipstick.

Ah, see, I'm the opposite, I always say to go by the dipstick or sight glass rather than fluid measure. You never know how much you have left in the motor after an oil change, but the level as indicated by the dipstick/glass is always right. I'm the same way with forks, measure oil hight from the top rather than put in a set amount.

    Is the starter spinning?

Do you hear the Starter wheezing at all?

Do you hear the fuel Pump turning on?

no kiddin....makes sense, I've just never had any luck...especially with the POS dipsticks on my R6's. Reading it is next to impossible cuz the entire thing is always covered in oil (and no I don't put way to much oil in lol). I just drain it really thoroughly and measure it out.

    Re: Stupid Problem...

You might of just flooded the engine. When I did some work on my 05 cbr a couple months ago I started and stopped the engine a couple times. When i got the bike back together I couldn't get it to start at all. It would try but just wouldn't fire up. My problem was I flooded the engine. It took 2 times of draining the battery and recharging before it started. On the cbr if its flooded you have to hold the throttle at wide open when starting it to clear out the excess fuel. I would give that a try.

    Re: Stupid Problem...

    I got it running...

Like a dumbass, I tried to do too many things at once. I had the upper front cowl removed at the same time. Some how, one of the wire harness connectors loosened up and became disconnected.

As soon as I put the front cowl back on, the bike started right up...

    Thanks for the advice guys...

Check the condition of your battery just the same and it's fluid levels.
