Any of yous guys who've blown up a motard care to divulge where it failed?
I've been toying with the idea of a preventative rebuild of my KTM 520's motor... It's a fun little motor to work on. Figured while it was apart I could send the crank out to get welded and balanced.
I'm not interested in any performance upgrades at the expense of reliability, but if anyone has suggestions to make it MORE reliable I'm all ears.
FALICON the crank. Johnny Gosselin was blowing cranks left and right till he got them sent out to Falicon.
My 450X motor ate the rod bearing. The 450r motor seems to be pretty bulletproof.

Spun crank bearing on my KTM 560SMR. +1 on welding the crank. Once that's done, KTM motors seem to be pretty bulletproof.
In lay man's terms, what area gets welded on the cranks of the KTM's?
The crank pin gets welded to the counter weights. That way the two halves of the crank can't s[in on the pin causing an out of balance scenario which is what actually grenades the rest of the bearing from the out of balance.
Hope that is lay man enough.

Thanks KB. Just wanted to keep the thread as on topic as possible and still get information.
You are the king of lay, man!

Geeez Gino when I saw that post I thought it might have been Oxx!
To keep this somewhat On Topic, apparently overrevving the hell out of an engine can cause really crazy things to happen to it. Valves float, spit the shim out from under the cam follower, get bent, crack the cylinder wall, broken cylinder wall grabs the piston at the top of the stroke, mechanical forces cause the rod to rip the wrist pin out of the bottom of the piston, pieces of the wrist pin bounce around in the cylinder and transmission, the cases crack and on and on and on.
