OK so my shifter has felt sloppy and gross for a while so last week I pulled the rear set off Removed the shift lever. Then pushed out the stock steel bushing turned a new one out of 17-4 and pressed the new one in. Now my question is what should I use for lubricant. I had just slathered some white marine grease on there. But one of the guys at work suggested I use antisieze. He used to work at a chopper shop and said that's what they used. Doesn't sound so good to me though. Any thoughts?
I think antiseize should do the job.

I usually throw some general purpose lithium grease in there.
A waterproof grease would be my choice over anti-seize. Grease is designed for parts moving against each other. Anti-seize is for preventing static pieces from rusting. But - anti-seize is better than nothing...

I use Mercury 2-4-C lube. It's used on propeller splines underwater and seems about the best thing I've found so far. I've been meaning to drill it, tap it, and put a zerk on it...
Yeah I didn't use the antiseize I used water resistant marine grease. The anti seize was just a suggestion I got from someone else.
Oh while were on the subject I was thumbing thru my Haynes the other day and they reccomended a "dry film lubricant". Wth is that? Just a fancy way of saying graphite or what?
They recommend a dry film lubricant because it doesn't attract dirt. The problem with a grease on something like that is it attracts and holds on to dirt, which damages the bushing. But that can be negated if you keep up with maintenance.
I would say you would be OK with the grease you have on it, or a light coat of marine grade wheel bearing grease. Graphite powder would actually work well too, but may wash away.
Cool thanks again guys. Btw I just put the rear set back on. Holy crap did that make a difference shifts like butter now.
17/4 for a bush? Thats an expensive bush!!
Yeah its what we had for steel lol.
