    Question lubing cables

I know many of you already lube your clutch cable, which I finally just did yesterday. But I'm wondering if you guys lube your throttle cable and/or any other cables. thanks.

    Re: lubing cables

I removed my throttle tube, cleaned off the gunk that had built up over the years and applied a thin film of GP grease. Instant throttle when combined with the cable lube.

Now if only the engine would respond as quickly.

what are you ridin that you lube your clutch cable ?

most oem cables are teflon coated and do not require lube, it is in fact bad to lube them

but you do need to lube the pivots

So, instead of joining the ride you planned, you want to lube your cable. I suggest you dip it twice in your vag then maybe think about actually riding that garage queen ...

    Jim, you suck.

There's like 2 cables on the bike, just fucking lube all of them

    Then clean your chain again.

That would make the chain gritty and sandy

What about the speedometer cable. My last speedometer cable broke. I got a new one but I just installed it. Its still not working. Do I need to Lube it? How do I lube it? Sorry for such a naive question. But I thought All I had to do was screw the two ends to at the wheel and on the speedometer. Its not working.

Did I screw up this cable too?

You do need to lube the cable where it connects at the wheel as far as I know.

I think I will have to get some grease then. Also there is a pin at the wheel end of the cable with a little slot and I put the slot in correctly. However the pin is not soldered to the cable. It actually came off whe I was installing it hte first time. I have tried to tighten it as much as I could and now it does not come off but just wondering if the cable is still good.

At least for my old ex500, that pin isn't supposed to come off. I haven't had to do anything with my 9r for that yet so not sure if the cable is the same. But if it is the same, then that is why your cable isn't working.

+1 Sounds like a defective cable to me. I replaced the 250's and never had any issue. The pin shouldnt come out.

Mine is a '99 model. I am sure all bikes that time used a Mechanical Cable.
