Is there like, maybe 3 newbies that'd be interested in a mini-maintanence seminar-type thing? It'll be geared STRICTLY for the newbie rider that really has no incling how to do basic maintanence stuff: erl & filter changes; chain adjustments; mebbe touch on brake/clutch fluid changing & replenishing; talk about coolant flushing & replenishing; proper lever adjustments; proper tire inflation & things of that nature...
It'd be up at my place (Center Barnstead, NH). I'm thinking 3 people so that we can work 'hands on' with YOUR bikes. You'd hafta bring your oil & filter of choice and your owner's manuals. If you bought a service manual, bring that too. If any of ya wanna do your brake/clutch fluids too, bring the PROPER DOT brake fluid for your bike...
This would be strictly for people that don't normally do this type of maintanence on their own and would typically pay a stealership for this...
It would require $30 donation to the site and'll include lunch...
Any interest?
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Id be into coming up to learn - I dont think im ready to really do work on my own bike but i like the idea of learning how to do this stuff. The most I do at this point is put the gas in myself....
Please note:
This is not a subscription site. We pay for the site's maintenance (server costs) and you get to play in the forums.
We figure if we can offer something we are good at in return, we might be able to EARN some donations towards the site.
There will be a race trailer with all tools, air tools, stands, odds and ends, as well as a couple of racers available for questions and answers.
Please help us out and take advantage of this!![]()

Im not sure if this was directed at me since I was the only one who replied, but even though I wouldn't want to work on my own bike Id still be into coming up to learn and Id be happy to make the required donation.Originally posted by legalspeed

Holy shit YES!!!
I've been waiting for something like this but I didn't want to come out and beg for it. I actually asked Jim Pidgeon if he wouldn't mind showing me the ropes, but I imagine that would end up being more than $30.
I've worked on my own cars for about 6-7 years now (just replaced rear pads and rotors on my integra Friday), but haven't touched the bike yet. I'm skurred.
I'd love to be one of the three. What dates are you thinking? My schedule is somewhat tight but we'll see what we can do.

Not at all bro!
Just wanted to get the word out. The racer and race trailer is me and mine.![]()
Pushing these machines to the extreme, crashing them regularly and reassembling them in a matter of hours has taught me a lot.
I'm not a mechanic, but would like to share what I do know;
tires
body position
controls location
what type of fluids to use and why/when to change them
rebound, compression damping, pre-load, steering damping

Just to be clear: We WILL be working with 'attendee's' bikes, period. This is the reason for only wanting three of ya this time around. The things we'll be doing are VERY basic things that even your chinsey little owner's manuals cover...
I want to use YOUR bikes so you can see exactly how it's done on YOUR bikes. Some may vary a bit from others, and I wanna be sure YOU can do it on YOUR OWN after that...
It FLOORS me how much dealerships pay for basic maintanence stuff...
I'm no mechanic or mechanical whiz, trust me. And there's absolutely no reason to be intimidated by what I'll cover. I can't tell you enough how very basic this stuff is. Nor can I imagine how much $$$ you'll save by doing this yourself...
ALSO-To echo what Dan (legalspeed) mentioned: The 'donations' I'm soliciting for this go directly into site upkeep & maintanence (and lunch for that day)...![]()

But if that's the only weekend you have, I'll catch the next one.
