Anything corrosive or threatening about them? I wanna keep the critters outta the C-14 fairings while it's on the battery tender in the shed this winter. Someone suggested the critters hate mothballs. Short of storing the bike at Doc's new place (not a bad option actually, worth a grand to me, except for Vermont), do mothballs make sense?

You could buy a tarp roll the bike onto it and then wrap it and tap it shut. I usually seal my exhaust and intake. But no big critters so no worries. I would imagine the tarp will do the trick.
It is probably easier to keep critters out of the shed then it is to keep critters that are in the shed away from the bike. That being said, mothballs will not hurt anything, and they might even work. You'll need a lot of them as said critter is only going to avoid that small area. Some people say dryer sheets work also. And little guys like mice will not walk over steel wool either. I think this is probably one of those topics where for every person you find that uses a particular technique, you will find at least one person saying that it doesn't work...
You should get the crystallized powder and add a box to your fuel tank and airbox. Idle the bike for 10-15 minutes, fluff with a fork and you're done.
Kidding.
The better idea as stated above would be to boobie-trap the hell out of the entire shed. I've had good luck with the poison bars that you can get at Home Depot. Just keep the family pets and little kids away from the stuff.
For the bike, an oily rag (not soaked, just enough to throw a scent) stuffed in the exhaust and intakes will do the trick. Critters hate oil.

I use mothballs around my bike in winter and sleds in summer. And sleds are out doors. Put a lot around them. Under cover, in engine bay. Never a issue running or making damage and never a critter
This works!

I had a family of mice build a nest in my airbox.....eating through my cables
causing about $600 in damage. Have used this ever since with NO problems.

I tried to use mothballs once. Didn't care for the smell. Neither did the guy holding the wings.

Put them in a Onion Bag and hang it in there does the same thing......
the tarp will only make the bike more inviting as a winter rodent nest
you really think a tarp will keep a rodent out
kerosene soaked rag in the exaust and intake works well,
I'm sure mothballs would work to keep rodents out, I'm just not sure there won't be a chemical reaction that damages your bike

I started with mothballs (humane, kind to mice), moved on to traps (humane, quick, pleasant death while eating peanut butter), then found that only poison keeps them under control (slow, agonizing death from kidney failure).
Now I'm pumping gallons of caulk and expanding foam into all joints and crevices of the garage.
Drawbacks:
Mothballs: everything smells like mothballs.
Traps: ants eat the bait.
Poison: it's poison.
Caulking: miles to go before I sleep.
Why, you may ask, am I going to all this trouble? Here's what the cute little critters built in my Ducati airbox last year, didn't take 'em long, either.![]()
Good thing I didn't run the bike this way.
I hear tell that they chew up wiring harnesses, too. Something to look forward to ...

And don't believe everything you think.
Tin foil is the end-all be-all of critter prevention.
Ball some up and stick it in the end of the exhaust pipe in additon to wrapping your air box intake.
Heh I need that for hats
There is a small chance that mothballs in contact with the plastics might cause problems.

The mice built that nest in my Monster airbox last summer, when I was least expecting it. So I made up an air intake screen from 1/8" hardware cloth, and plug the exhaust when the bike is parked with these dirt bike wash plugs:
