Cylinder #1's plug broke at the gasket ring leaving behind the plug's threads in the head.
The center electrode is still attached and a set of easy outs will soon be put to the test.
I have used spark plug anti-seize since I was 6 years old on all my machines this, bike included.
I'm speculating that perhaps the plug was a bit weak or that my spark plug socket was not sitting flush
as I started to put pressure on it for removal.
My first time working on this conundrum may have varied results.
The damaged plug has perfect color and all 16 valves were good to go with no adjustments needed as they all were sitting between the upper and lower clearance specs.
I have drizzled penetrating fluid onto the NGK's threads that now sit awaiting their fate with a tool I wish I didn't need to use.
It looks like this.

Oh well, old bike.
It sounds like the mechanical Gods needed to test you... Good luck with the EZ Out.

Make sure you account for ALL pieces
Or be real and pull the head

I'm hoping to not have to pull the head off the old girl.
I can only imagine what condition the header bolts are in.
I'll keep you posted just the same though.
use a highly rated penetrant.. cyclo's 'break away' or castle's 'thrust' are both excellent.
i take it the gasket surface is at the break line in the picture?
and what the hell dinosaur is that plug for?!

The picture is only an example of what I have on the workbench.
The insulator and plug tip came out as one piece and all that sits in the head is the plug's thread portion with the grounding electrode still attached.
I'll post up my own pictures today or tomorrow.
My friend just called to let me know he dropped the easy-out kit in my mailbox at home.
He was mentioning that some co-workers have had good luck using this tool to do this particular job. I hope the tools come blessed.
i had this happen once. big EZ out duct taped to a long extension and a wrench and it came out

Tap while applying turning force
Also maybe SOME heat with a propane torch...piston down
Aluminum expands more than steel
propane hot enough to melt aluminum heat cycles also good for getting penatrating lube to seep into joint

ok, am i haveing some kind of weird psychedelic dream, or was this thread actually resolved and the broken part already came out..
or did i just dream that and think it was real?..
