Alright. Usually I'm a fully capable person and can do pretty much anything I set my mind to and go about carefully... but for the life of me I can't get my dirt bike tires mounted- this is my first time doing it and I just can't get it.
I picked up some MEFO 50/50 tubed tires and they are stiff as all hell. After fighting with them for about 3 hours now I accidentally started to crack the bead on one of them... That did it for me. I called Razees here but they just blew me off cause its Saturday afternoon (even though they're open til 4) and I'm pretty much up shits creek.
I have two large spoons and two small ones, I just cant get the lip over the back edge without the tire coming off the other edge. I'm constantly chasing the lip around that is coming off. Now that I started to crack the bead I'm scared to continue. A little help or input?
You can clamp a pair of vise-grips to the rim, just in front of where one of the beads keeps walking. Then you will not have to keep chasing it.
You can also use large "C" clamps to keep the tire dropped down in the center of the rim. This should help out.
Thanks, that would have helped alot. Good to know those trics for next time.
I ended up getting another set of hands and an extra foot, and we got it on there, I just moved away from where my first split started to happen. Popped a tube, so I got to do that all over again.
The front tire went on smooth as butter. I'm going for a quick ride to get some beer, then I plan on drinking all the beer I get because of this...
All will be forgotten after your first ride.
haha, I went for a ride. I said fuck it about not having a plate and rode it down some back roads onto Rt 2 so I could get gas and beer. Can't say that all is forgotten, but I do feel alot better about it.
It was a learning experience and something that needed to be done. Now I'll be able to do it quicker next time, and I know when to ask for a hand from someone instead of trying to do it on my own. Gotta say though, that XR605R freakin' rips.![]()
