R1 owners?

Does anyone with the 06 style R1 get a faint smell of coolant sometimes?
I've noticed it sence I got the bike last year but never really thought much of it. Today I decided to pull the plastics and check things out. There were no signs of any leaks anywhere...usually you see some type of whitish film if there is a coolant leak? I warmed the bike up so I could change the oil and once the temp got to around 200, I started to get the smell again? No signs though, no steam anywhere..and it wasn't coming from the exhaust. It seemed like it was coming from the right side radiator fan (if sitting on the bike) but after a quick inspection, no signs of anything?
Also the coolant level when the bike is up to temp is in the middle of the upper/lower lines and hasn't changed.

same smell here. when i warm it up i get steam from the exhaust, made me nervous til i noticed no drop in the coolant levels at all.

FWIW, the smell *could* be a result of the catalyst doing its job. It's a smell similar to coolant but it's definitely not coolant. Believe it or not, the R1 isn't the only machine recently produced that has been questioned on this very topic.

Ride more. Worry less.

I have an '06 and they are known to leak coolant from a small hose under the rightside fairing. Your right about the white film though that's how I noticed mine (before the puddle accumulated under my bike). I brought it back to the stealership and they just tightened the hose and said it was fine. They also said I was like the 5th guy that week to bring it in for the same reason.
That was 2 years ago and I haven't had the problem again.

Jim you've got to get over this anti-yamaha thing. You ride a chrome gixxer. It sucks
