I've got a little over 3k on my 2003 R6 and when brand new, my clutch would grab when the lever was not quite half way let out - now it grabs just a hair before its all the way out. I've checked the cable for slack both at the lever and at the engine case, played with tightening or loosening it, and I have the right slack according to spec meaning that the cable has only stretched a tiny bit, if at all, over that 3k of miles.
My riding is mostly stop and go in the city, or maybe more like stop and race to the next light and then stop again.
So whats the normal lifespan for stock clutch plates?
sounds like a good reason to move to a barnett racing clutch setup.
normal lifespan is certianly more than 3k.. and more than likely all you ned to do is get you clutch properly adjusted. there should be an adjustment at the clutch end of the cable as well as the freeplay adjustment on the lever, if you don't know haow to adjust it properly, have a qualified mechanic do it.Originally posted by RMNissen

I have rarely heard anything good about Barnett clutches for use on the street, they are made for the track, have stgiffer springs etc.
FWIW, I still am on my original clutch with my 99SV that has almost 100k. nothing wrong with slipping a wet clutch, it won't hurt it ir make is wear faster like dry clutch.
