I pulled out my synch tool and all of the mercury is gone. One of the tubes pulled out of the reservoir. Anyone have any spare mercury laying around? or a synch tool I could use? Thanks.

Make one. Just some tubing, a board about 4 ft long and some tranny fluid.
Why not just reassemble the one you've got?

How difficult is it to just go out and buy mercury?
I've seen some pretty cool home made sync tools on the R1 forum, 4 vacuum gauges, some vacuum line, and something to tie the gauges together in order.
I have a motion pro sync tool you're welcomed to borrow, but I'm a hike from where you are

My apologies, I was being facetious. I had thought that, if prompted, you could reassemble the tool and try it filled with transmission fluid.
(I built one for a twin that I filled with motor oil. Wasn't exactly complex, simply a U-shaped tube secured to a board!)

Mercury is a no-no now, refill kits if you CAN find them are pricy.
I've got a Morgan Carbtune ][ that I've used once, dunno how many times CEO used it before me?
Just refill with 2stroke oil, I made my own clear tube, cardboard and 2stroke oil. It works fantastic when the carbs are fairly close to begin with just like any manometer of that style. Eventually I'm gonna buy a guauge style so I don't have to start and stop so much when the carbs are way off also makes adjusting to the highest possible vacuum readings with mixture screws easier instead of just equalizing them

I have a brand new motion pro tool if u want to borrow. I think its the non mercury model. I know you can get replacement fluid for it. I eonder if you could convert yours?

I bought a couple of vacuum gauges and used my hoses with the restrictors installed. This worked to get the job done.
The mercury was in the bottom of the cardboard box the tool had been stored in. The little I could get back into the tools reservoir wasn't enough to make it work right. Thanks for the offers and ideas.

Maybe my boss can give it a blood transfusion. There's reason to believe there might be an excess amount of Merc there....
I just went out to look at my motion pro sync tool yesterday. I knew the fluid was gone and I had be planning on refilling it(for the second time in a few years). Once I got it apart I found out where it went this time. The bottom had cracked. I'm not sure it this was my fault or not. I may have left it in my car or truck and it froze but its been so long since there was fluid in it I really can't remember.
What I do know, I'm not buying another one. I may use some of the pieces and make my own set up, I really only need a tool for 2 cylinders, or I'm buying something else.

I made my own out of some glass jars, rubber hoses and jar plugs, some 0w30 engine oil, and some hand drill creativity.

Oil can burn in your engine if you get a bit in there and its thicker so it isn't as quick to move around. It works with water but you can actually see the engine pulses so as the engine pulls on the intake stroke the water will raise more and then drop as the next cylinder pulls. It will be extremely accurate, but you really want more of an average and a balance. Also if its fairly off between the cylinders it'll suck all the water right into your engine. Thick oil will take longer and it can be adjusted or pulled off before all the oil goes into your engine. Also something with color to it is easier to see. If you use too thick oil you won't get an accurate enough reading because it will take a long time for the difference to balance out.
Tx. I have a ZX11 and its carbureted. Sooner or later I will have to resync the carbs and I suppose I could have the same problem you started with . Good info. Thanks
