Hello everyone. I bought a 2003 Suzuki SV650s last year with a Yosh pipe, K&N filter and PC3 installed. I since have added Velocity stacks and a few other mods. My question is what does the PC3 do other than ignition and fuel maps. The kid I bought the bike from was not a "bike" guy. He got the bike from a friend who had done all of the work to the bike and he just beat it till he crashed it so he could not tell me what was done. I am just guessing but I believe the maps in the PC3 are generic maps and were not done on a dyno. I was wondering if I should attempt to find newer maps (the bike runs strong) since I have added Velocity stacks and I was also wondering if the PC3 defeated the TRE timing retardation in the lower gears and what else it does. The bike seems to be using the PC3 but there are times where it makes less power like it has switched maps or it is not working. Well I figured many of you have used them and could give me an idea as to what exactly they do then I will decide if I want to figure out how to make changes and if I want to bother with dyno time for this bike as my other bike is going in soon! Well thanks to everyone that replies to this thread spring will be here soon (just not soon enough)
The PC 3 does nothing to the ignition & will do nothing like a TRE. The only way you can adjust the timing is if you have a 3R or an ignition module along with your power commander. The PC3 just adjusts the fueling of the bike. I'm sure it just has a generic map downloaded off of dyno jets website. If the bike runs fine now with no flat spots or hiccups there is no need to dyno tune it at all unless you wanted to get every last bit of performance out of it. FYI a TRE is not worth the money don't bother with one

Cool thanks for the info I am very happy with the performance of the bike so far. I am almost certain that the map is generic but it does make good power for an SV. I can get the front up out of corners in third. I have stock gears and with the mods listed above the bike pulls way better than my friends stock SV. I will proably just leave it alone I just don't know what else has been done to it (cams or port n polish) but since it runs great I am happy. Thanks again
To pull up in 3rd gear off of a corner is pretty impressive for an SV 650. My 2012 ZX-10 barley does that with 185rwhp & gearing, So It must have major engine work done. good luck

I may not have been clear I am not getting a full wheelie in third but when the tire hooks up the front tire is FLOATING above the pavement. I just mentioned that to show how well the bike is running. I have plenty of torque and good acceleration thru all the revs I usually ride in and it pulls hard (for a 650) I have never had a PC3 before so I wanted to know what exactly it did. Thanks again for the feed back
Bring the bike over to dynotune and you can put it on the dyno and see how the tune is...instead of guessing
You would be shocked at how many bikes have read bad tunes.... dont use the power commander webpage maps, thats for sure....they are always way off for some reason....
I will be doing my first track day this year with the SV. I am having my Ducati dynode first this spring because I love that bike so much and want to keep it running as good as possible (street only). I may end up taking the SV in after the Ducati but the SV runs really well and starts perfect every time so I believe it is pretty well set up. I know there is always more power with the custom maps but she goes so well now I just would like to get the Duke done first to get rid of the low speed surgeing around town. After the Duke is done I may just go for it
Have the SV dyno'ed. You have no idea what the state of tune is.
Running well does not equal properly tuned.
I agree that running well does not equal properly tuned. I am happy with the performance right now but I will be working on it after my ducati gets the once over first. I will be doing my first track day in 2014 and it will be on the SV so if it is lacking I think it will show up on the track. Not sure if I will be able to get the SV dynode before I do the track day but I will have it done. I would like to have a real map done for the PC3 as I am almost positive the guy I bought the bike from either just added the PC3 with no map (I don't know if that is possible) or just loaded a premade generic map. He did not seem like he did much more than ride (and crash) the bike. When I got the bike it had not run for 2 years and had been stored outside, uncovered. The oil looked like month old coffee and there were pieces of clutch fiber in it. I looked at the clutch pack and I had to replace that also. Fork seals and oil (the fork oil was a different color in each leg and not just dirty I think one had ATF in there) plus the coolant was black also. I think this guy did as little maint as possible and as cheaply as possible. I replaced nearly everything including the frame before I even thought about a test ride. Well the bottom line is the bike is much better now and runs strong I just don't know about the PC3 map nor what other mods may have been done.
Thanks again to everyone who replied I appreciate all the input!

If the bike sat for a long time with fuel in it I would have the injectors ultrasonic cleaned to make sure the fuel atomizes properly before you get any tuning done whats so ever that is more important then dyno tuning when a bike has been sitting with old fuel in the system
