washing helmet padding

anyone have any experience/ advice on washing the padding from inside the helmet - I'm a little gun-shy about messing up the insides of a pretty and expensive helmet

warm water and some detergent. Make sure you dry everything after or it will get moldy.

I use towels and a fan. I wouldn't trust the heat from a hair dryer.

I prefer Dove (unscented).

try using baby soap - its just about the mildest soap you can get and it rinses out well (it also has a nice scent)

Air Conditioners are great leather and gear dryers.

The air is cool and dry. It just wicks the moisture out from damp items
cause the water is condensed out of the air from the refridgeration process.

Stay away from heat.

I've used Woolite over the years without any probs. I usually start off by placing the helmet upside down in the kitchen sink with a couple of paper towls underneath to avoid scratching....then fill the helmet with warm water. Then add a capful of Woolite to the water and then give a shot or two from the jet spray thingy to foam it up. Using a common sponge, I just gently scrub down all the headliner surfaces, and rinse with warm water. Most helmets have removeable cheek pads, so I clean those separately. The visor I leave on...no probs with the Woolite affecting it, etc. Rotate the helmet around a few times to drain any excess h20 from inside the shell, pat down the liner with a dry towel to wick up as much h2o as possible and then place rightside up in an area where it will get good ventilation. Throw the cheek pads in the dish rack! If you want to speed up the drying, try the other ways mentioned here. Just so long as you DON'T use the clothes dryer!! LMAO! Or use another helmet in the meantime if you have an extra one. Should take a couple of days to fully dry if yer in no hurry! Either way, its good to have a nice clean helmet again!

on my dirtbike helmet i just tide with some warm water and just use my hands to scrub it up a little in a bucket. i wouldnt throw your stuff in with the wash, i doubt the stitching on the inside padding could hold up to a full wash for very long. then i just air dry it. just make sure everything dries real good.
