Suspension question...

I am still trying to figure out if I can get my fork fixed under warranty, but now that I look up in the book and realize the fork is supposed to be taken apart and inspected + seals changed every 15k miles it seems like I ought to learn how to do it, and I should just set it up correctly while I have it apart.

I went to Race Tech's site and this is what they recommended for my weight/bike and assuming "street riding", "amateur/intermediate" rider and "standard" preferences.

Stock Springs: .706kg/mm
Recommended springs: .784kg/mm

They have the springs in the recommended rate but would it be worth it? It's not much of a difference... and it would save me $100 if I keep the stock springs.

Recommended oil: 20wt
Cartridge Emulator Valve Spring: 64lb/in
Number of turns on Emulator Valve Spring Preload: 2.0 turns
Fork Spring Preload: 25mm
Fork Spring Set Length: 500mm
Recommended Fork Static sag: 32mm

It looks like I can order Fork Seals + Dust Seals from them with the cartridge emulators, and they also have Inner/Outer Bushings. ? The bushings have a different name in the service manual, am I correct to assume they have to be replaced as well?

I'm going to call them on the phone before I do this but I just wanted to see if anyone here had any advice.

I am also looking at figuring out what tools I need:
- Front stand
- Seal Driver ($70 ? This isn't mentioned in the service manual)
- Spring compressor (Racetech says this is extremely handy?)
- Oil Height Gauge?

Should I get preload adjustable fork caps while I am at it?

Hmm.. this just got more complicated as the warranty request was approved and I can get it fixed next week...

I think I'm going to go with the free fix... I had been in la-la-land this afternoon thinking of all the stuff I was going to buy and how great my bike would be...

And then I get a phone call from an ex co-worker who is still out of work... Makes me think... maybe that $500 or so would be better off not getting spent on the bike.

...approx. 25 % of my company was laid off w/out warning on Friday (times are tuff in the consumer audio biz...). glad I pulled the reins on some of the mods I was gonna do... I'll feel better w/ a bit o' cash as backup, instead...

www.casporttouring sells RT stuff cheaper than RT if you ever choose to go that route
