We are doing 2 of these builds at the same time. One RVF400 and one VFR400. Hence the 8 pistons, 8 rods etc.

Why build one when you can build 2 for double the price?

I'd be up for a social wrenching session too! It'd make for a good excuse to bring my 400 project over for Mr Kates to ridicule and possibly plot out some fab work on the subframe end...

it'd better be ready for 2012 cause I want it shaken down and the bugs worked out before I buy for 2013. Guess I'll have to go for the VFR since I doubt Tony is gonna be selling that RVF anytime before he dies.

Have you met Scottie? That bike won't make it through a full season without being totaled or close to totaled haha

I don't remember him crashing the CBR600. I can deal with some damage for that bike.

What? You live under a rock?

EDIT: I think the engine just grenaded on the CBR.

maybe they all blur together. I remember the 848, the 749 and pretty sure he went down on the ST but I'm not sure. Did the ZRX stay upright?

define upright? if you mean 12 o'clock... if so yes, it stayed upright many times on public roads

I love when Corey talks shit, he's so cute trying to be all tough like. I'm sure as hell not gonna say I won't crash it, it's a race bike. I'm gonna race it. It'll probably get crashed a few times, who cares?

Let's set the history straight here.

    Crashed it? / Bike

No / GSXR600: I didn't crash it per se, got T-boned by car, totalled, bent to shit, thank god, one less annoying bike on the planet.
Yes / Hawk 650 race: Crashed everytime I hopped on it, loved that thing.
Yes / Duc 748 racebike: crashed to shite almost everytime I rode it, especially if Degsy was in the race... Eventually parted out.
No / Duc 748 street: Never crashed, sold.
No / Yamaha RD350: Never crashed, although it's a damn miracle considering how I rode that thing in Boston daily while in college.
No / Duc 888 street: kickstand sunk into hot pavement, never crashed, sold after winning best in class belt-drive Ducati's at Larz..
No / Duc M944 street: Never crashed, rode like a hooligan, miss that bike.. sold.
Sorta / Duc 851 street: Never crashed at the track (2 or 3 TDs on that one), got cut off and endo'd it once in traffic tho. Landed the rear back down and fell over.
No / Daytona 675 street then racebike: Raced 5 rounds, no crashes, sold.
No / 750SS racebike: Raced 6 rounds, no crashes, sold / parted.
No / 800SS rental / racebike: Didn't really ride it much, but some renters crashed it.
No / Husqvarna SM610: Did a couple trackdays, epic hooligan antics, I still can't figure out how I managed to NOT crash it...
Yes / 848 streetbike: fell over in driveway, repaired. crashed in T9 (street trim) - totaled, bought it back, converted to race. Didn't crash it in race trim (4 weekends?).
No / CBR600R racebike: Engine tossed a tiny little bolt the 2nd day I had it after 1 good day at VIR. Rebuilt engine, rode at Monticello, did a test day at NHMS w/ Freddie and sold her. New owner has had zero issues.
No / ZRX1100: never crashed, never wheelied or abused either, she's mint! Sold.
Yes / 749R track trim: 2 glorious days WFO at Calabogie with zero incidents, made it thru a day at Loudon... had a nice easy lowside @ NJMP turn into WTFFLIPTASTICNESS and well, she needs a swingarm and a measurement now . oh well. Excuse for new paint.
Yes / ST2: lowsided, meh, this one really bummed me out for a few days but only because it took a while to realize... 40+ PSI is uh, not a good idea...

    Re: VFR400 Ground-up

The only thing I get from analyzing my bike / crash ratio is, if it's a Ducati and a race / track bike, I'll probably crash it. Unless it's a shitty SS, they don't go fast enough to crash...

It doesn't matter what it is, you shouldn't be crashing this much on a track day.

Either put the glory days of being #82 behind you and take it down a notch, or start racing again.

    Re: VFR400 Ground-up

it's not a dig at scottie at all means. i think he's a talented rider and could teach me a thing or two on the track.

but you do have to evaluate yourself and look at reasons why bikes keep getting crashed. and typically the answer, would then follow up with "should you be doing that on a track day".

that's all i'm going to say on that subject.

Scottie, you know i'm good for helping you wrench any of your projects you've got lined up for this winter.

    Re: VFR400 Ground-up

Although I'm pretty sure Jim's comments were tongue in cheek, there are always things to learn from previous crashes. My most recent 3 crashes are all tied to tire pressures being off, or not enough heat in the tires (848, 1st lap out on DCIIIs after riding on slicks previously that session), ST2 4th lap out on Angel STs that were at at least 36 psi cold prior to the session and the 749R (2nd lap out, 1st session after lunch) which was running slicks and warmers all day till after lunch when the front warmer didn't kick on and I didn't give it enough time to warm up. Completely my fault and very frustrating because...

    I should know better.

So, new for 2012, a vinyl sticker on the tanks of all my bikes reminding me to check heat and pressure prior to every session.

It's amazing what a little distraction can do, even to a salty old track dog.

Jeeze Scottie, haven't you heard that you don't need warmers on a trackday?

Learned not to listen to that gem myself the hard way.....

    Re: VFR400 Ground-up

when my racebike was still my streetbike doing double duty as a track day bike, i had to put tape on the triple tree that said "you have to ride this to work" to remind me not to push too hard. ironically the only 2 times i RODE the bike to the track i crashed it. once it came home on trailer, the other time i had to borrow a rearset to get home
