I have an on-board bullet cam set-up from www.cedigital.com
It comes with a battery pack that takes 8 x AA batteries.
Do you think wiring it to the tail lights, which show a max of 14 volts is too much? Should I toss a 2ohm resistor in there?

would probably work just fine
just be sure to clean the lint trap on the flux capacitor.

AA batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts, so 8 in series would be 12V. 14 shouldn't be a problem.
Worrrrd.
BTW, BEFORE I did that rec/reg wiring mod, when I was only seeing a little over 13 volts, I wired it straight to the battery based on a suggestion by someone else that owned the same system.... it worked fine & dandy when the bike was off, but when it was running there was WAY too much interference.... so I'm looking for a cleaner current that won't overload the camera.

I would recommend an inline fuse hower, if the camera doesn't have one already.
I've actually got an extra pig-tail for a battery tender that I was gonna put to use since it has an inline fuse holder... what size do you think I should throw in there?

Depends on what you mean. A capacitor in series with the positive lead will AC-couple the line, blocking DC voltage. A capacitor from the positive lead to ground provides a low impedance path to ground for AC while blocking DC, which is used to filter residual AC ripple on a DC line.

hey pete u gonna have this ready in time for NJ?
I'll have it with me & play around with wiring & mounting when I have free time. If I can get it working well & we have some dry track time I'll record some of the action.![]()

plugged it in to the tail lights.... still had some interference when the bike was running.
And now the fuckin recording unit, which has its own power supply, just shit the fucking bed
I've plugged it into a usb port, the charging light turns on but it won't do a fucking thing. Before I could at least turn it on and it would connect to my PC like an external drive... now? not a god damned thing.
So fucking pissed.

hope u didnt fry it. try removing the dvr battery to reset it. hope thats the only thing wrong with it
i don't see how it could have fried, it doesn't draw off the camera power source as far as I know.
Besides, it died while I was replaying the last vid after I disconnected it & was walking away from the bike.

Pete, what's wrong with just going with the AAs?
Seems like you are making this more complicated than
its worth in terms of troubles you can introduce.
All I know is that messing with electrical stuff by adding
on extra 3rd party stuff just begs problems down the road.
2008 Honda CBR 600RR
The batteries are heavy and can fall out enough to cut power or worse head out to the track itself.
I hooked my camera up to the head lights. Has been working perfectly. Definitely go with an inline fuse. If I remember Ill look at mine and see what one they sent with the package.
