I bought a used rear wheel (no bearings, carrier, or rotor) and it shows up in damn near perfect shape.....except for the carrier side bearing seat. Looks like someone used a visegrip to get the old bearing out. It's scored and slightly flared on the circled side. Before I hound the seller for a refund, I want to make sure it's completely unusable. What do you guys think?
just smooth it out a bit with a dremel and you should be fine, i really dont think this should cause an issue

it's fine. Looks like the old bearing got hung up a bit on it's way out.
I'd use it
Get the bearings at a bearing house better and 1/3 the price. I usually do sealed.
There you can buy GREEN lock tite which is bearing retainer compound for the OD which will fill any gaps and support the outer race
Freeze the bearing (dry ice is best if you can)
TAP ONLY the outer diameter do not hit the inner race
Don't forget the inner race spacer tube
A little trick for putting in the new bearings is to put them in the freezer over night so they contract a little....then heat up the hub with a torch so it expands.
This combination makes its easy for them to just drop in.

Thanks for all the input guys. I've got new bearings coming this week so hopefully it will work out A.O.K.!
