Pilot Sports are out... Pilot Powers are in!

The Perelli Diablo Corsas are just as good too!

There is no way to tell someone the best tire is for them. When choosing a tire you need to take into account a few things, the type of riding you plan on doing, how you want the tire to handle and maybe expected life.

Best way to explain this is to look at HOW you like your bike to handle. A fairly stiff carcass ( Michlen H2's or pilot sport for example) are like riding on a roller coaster. Rides like it's on rails until the rail breaks and you risk going hurtling off into space, plunging to an untimely death. A hard carcass will not give you as much feedback, but will feel more razor sharp. It will have less warning when it's going to let go.

A soft carcass (Diablo Corsa for example) will thus give you more feedback. This can be VERY disconcerting if you're not used to it, since to the novice rider it will feel like the bike isn't as planted. Well it is...and the more you get your ass off the seat and weight the pegs, the more you'll be able to take advantage of this feedback. They have a LOT of warning before they slide. They'll flex, step out, and finally slide in a really linear and predictable manner..

    new tires

hey thanks for the input. Pretty interesting stuff. I thought I was dead set for the MIch's but you've got me thinking now. What I've got is a gixxer 1000 (2003) and am replacing the stock bridgestone's ( which I thought handled fine. They have no complaints from me.) So in regards to what I've been using what would you I might go with next? I've done a couple of track days and know how to ride.(not a racer though) I'm buying a new set of tires for the trip to VIR so the rubber is mainly for those days there. Based on the info what do you think? Thanks again.

The Michelin Race 2 - H2, M2 and S2 are the same casing - it's only a compound change. I have never heard them being called a hard casing before and I sold a ton of them.

The Pilot Sport is a different animal and is older tech than the Race 2.

The Pilot Sport Cup is a Race 1 Soft with a Pilot Sport tread pattern.

The Pilot Power is BRAND NEW and should never be compared to the tires above. It's is head and shoulders above Michelin's previous street tires.

The new Pilot Power Race is based upon the street Power casing and is a dual-compound tire.

The new Pilot Power PR Race is a REAL DOT race tire. Dual compound, and comes in limited sizes. This will be the tire of choice for all Supersport applications.

I would use a standard Pilot Power for what you want to do. It is a fantstic trackday tire, is the best street tire on the market right now and there are some killer deals on them, too.

If you don't want to use spare rims, these would be your best bet.

What's killer, Dave? I just dumped my 208's, and planning on running my H2/M2's on the street to finish them off. The new Power's have been getting some nice reviews and since I just sold my extra set of rims, I'd like dual service tires.

I know that www.compacc.com has some nice deals on them right now. I was in Ohio last week and visited them.

I do not know what Bridgestone came stock on your bike but Bridgestone's are generally a fairly stiff carcass. The BT012 and new BT002 are on the softer side though. I have not run the BT014, but I would think that as all the newer Bridgestone's are moving toward the softer carcass it would be better than the BT010 but probably not as soft as the BT012SS.So if you liked The Bridgestones you would probley like the Michlen Pilot Power.
