Leeza's battery in her SV is dead. Bikes been sitting for a few months or so without being started.
1. Is it possible that the bike is somehow draining the battery (Ive never had a battery die on me, even over winters and I usually dont even bother to hook up a battery tender). If so, can I find out what?
2. Is there a way to bring a battery back from death, one of those Auto store dealies, or is it just time to buy a new one?
I know its the battery, cause I threw the one from my KTM in there and her bike started right up.
A Optimate or similar battery tender with a de-sulfate function may be able to revive it, but if the voltage has dropped too far, might as well toss a new batt in.
Motorcycles batteries are much smaller than car batteries (duh!). Becasue of their size the plates in them are much closer together than in a big old car battery. When a battery it allowed to run down they tend to build up corrosion on the plates (sulfate) it doesn't take much corrosion build up before the plates short out against each other and that is the death of the battery. Can you charge up the battery? Maybe, but it may leave you stranded at an inopportune time. I would reccomend just replacing the battery for the riding season. While your in there buy a battery tender and install the pigtails for the battery tender at that time. Then you can easily plug in the battery tender when needed for storage. Also it allows you the opportunity to plug in an accessory such as a heated vest.
I've actually had decent luck with the cheapie Walmart batteries. They're cheap enough that if I only get a year out of them, I'm happy. So far as long as I'm good about keeping them on a tender they're holding up.
The battery display will have a book and a cheasy keypad setup you can use to look up the correct el-cheapie battery to fit.
Well 2 more questions now
1. She had a YT12A-BS battery in there. could that be why it drained? Is it not appropriate for the bike?
2. I put my KTM battery in, she plans on riding it that way, it was a different battery I forget the numbers, and my stupid phone didnt save the picture I took of it, but regardless, is it safe to run in there? not gonna damage electronics or the battery?
From searching online, the stock KTM battery is a Yuasa YTZ10S
Take old one to walmart and match it up with something close for 20 bucks. Or be prepaired to spent close to 80 to 100 bucks.
KB
Does the battery in it match the requirements for the battery is SHOULD have. CCA and such?
http://www.yuasabatteries.com/pdfs/2...apps_specs.pdf
YTZ10S Capacity AH: 8.6 Dimensions: L 6 W 3 7/16 H 3 11/16 Wgt: 7.0 Terminal Type: 11 Reg Charge current: 0.9 CCA: 190
YT12A-BS Capacity AH: 9.5 Dimensions: L 6 W 3 7/16 H 4 3/16 Wgt: 6.3 Terminal Type: 5 Reg Charge current: 1.0 CCA: 175
Damn close but I would be concerned about the CCA (although the KTM has MORE so)

Regulator rectifier is done. Replace it and the battery.

Could also bea wiring or stator issue richie, but 95% reg/rec
I'm gonna go with Degs, Something is causing your battery to not charge and most likely gonna be the Reg/rec
