Some say the Loudon Classic is the premier race of the year, others consider it the Larry Lap.
This year was no different from others. As the day approached, I scanned out the crowds throughout the facilities to scout this years competition. Luckily, I had my helmet fan on full blast all morning to ensure my helmet was cooled and dry for this intense moment we like to call....The Larry Lap.
With the two scooters in the garage gone for the weekend, I scrambled to locate an available vehicle that would pass regulations.
After Sunday's riders meeting, I was able to find an antique scooter from the Apollo crew. This scooter not only looked like an instant rocket, but was in the manliest color available: purple.
In a quick rush before the race begins, I checked tire pressures, my grid position, and make sure I had the LRRS spec fuel. Not sure if my tires were up to temp yet, I made the choice to just go for it.
The flag drops and there are bikes everywhere. I quickly gain a few positions, including Mike Arbo, who should have Made-A-Wish to stay ahead of me. As I stay fully tucked through Turn 1, I can see Scotty James pulling back t-shirts to get past a few riders. He's my next target. Boosh and his cheater bike blew past me. Luckily, he jumped the start and his results will be DQ'd.
Turn 4 is absolute madness as I was in too high of a gear and barely stalled up the hill. I knew I had to make some moves in order to get back to the front of the crowd. I reached for a few kill switches and even gave a stare down to show my competitors that I meant business.
I quickly catch up to the Growler down T10. My only shot at catching him now is to take the T13 shortcut through the grass. Barely keeping the front tire down, I gained a few spots right before the finish line.
Overall, I finished with a lap of 2:20.673. Beating my lap from last year, and finished 54th of 231.
I'd like to thank the Short Bus for keeping me hungover for the Larry Lap.

There's truth and charm and beauty
And strangeness everywhere
The closer we examine
The more there's nothing there
no mention of my vintage bmw with sidecar and dog?
