Overheating is the theme of my life lately. I overheated the race hawk at NJMP, thought it was fine and really couldn’t afford to tear the motor down so gave the bike a good teardown and going over, mounted a bigger radiator put on the new 600rr front and took it to Loudon.
BFM,
Right out of the box it was dead slow. Felt like I had ½ the power it usually does. Kid had her bike there and it was not ready to run so she let me use her motor. She did a LOT of the wrenching, me Joe, Dan, and Dana finished the swap. Got the bike on the track and still very slow (turns out that motor was overheated a bunch at the LAPS trackday and most likely needs head gaskets).
Binned it in 3 first practice trying to get used to the 600rr brakes (that are warped to shit) never even started to turn in. Just hit the brake and hit the ground.
Almost, decided not to race I was so discoraged when I got back to the garage but got over it fast and we went to works. Rearset, master cylinder, lever, clip-on and some exhaust bending and it was ready (except for still being dead slow).
ULSB:
Launched the bike and had 3 tards pass me before we where half way to 1, took the lead by 1a, ran uneventful slow laps (except hitting an EX500 who ran all the way to the wall in 2 while I was lapping him on the outside.) I was being stalked by an orange tard for the whole race. I was so down on HP it was unreal and frustrating. I rode it harder than even and only went 25’s (usually run 22’s).
Coming out of 12 last lap I knew he would motor me down the straight, he had been on my ass since we came out of 6, so I tried to push real hard through 12. Didn’t have enough got beet by .2 seconds at the line for second.
LWGP:
No big hopes or adventures, ran 26’s took it easy on the failing hawk motor, took home a 3rd.
LWSM:
The fun race!! I ran dans EX500 in this one. It was one of the most fun races I have ever run.
I 12 O’clocked the EX off the line, please someone has a picture of this post it! I hit the tail on the ground, knocked the number plate of it, ran behind the bike, go the wheel down (caused Kid to stall in the process cause I did it right in front of her. ) back on the bike and I was off. Now I’m dead last by ½ a straight. Buy the end of lap one I was in 2nd in my race, 3rd on the track. There was an orange tard in front of me I took me a couple laps to catch him but I did, passed him in 6 for the lead of LWSM
But there was still an SV in front of me, given he was not in my race but hey…
It took a lap to get on his rear wheel, and I stalked him to the white. Tried to pass into 1, no go, tried again in 2, no go same with 3 and 6. I would keep getting beside him then he would just motor me (joys of racing an EX). I had a huge run out of 9, he went a bit wide in 10 and I stuck it on the inside out braked into 11, and held him off, had a good enough drive out of 12 to beet him to the line.
AWESOME weekend!!!
I ran 1.24.01 on the EX500, I know I can go a lot faster I beacause was trying to pass the whole race but im happy with the times and more happy i didnt crash it!
The new front end on the Hawk felt great! Can't wait to get the motor fixed.
I have said it before and I’m saying it again. I am buying an EX500…
Sorry for the difficulties. Hampered you race craft I am sure.
Do you still have the F2 front?

Nice weekend dude!
There IS some kind of weird fun-ness about throwing an EX around the track. For me it is the feeling of being so out of control that you feel in control. Wait, What?

I watched that 12:00 at the start and was blown away by the hop back on.....what a save! And then to go on and win......you are either very talented or lucky.
Dan, did you get your number plate back? I think the starter had it.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.

I did, thanks
And my bike, your bank acct and I all thank you for that
Seriously, it's an EX. It could have taken the hit and you know it. You didn't let go because you still wanted to win the race!
If I was faster than you I'd give you some shit about your crashing.
Screw it, you wouldn't hit a guy on crutches, would you?
You're running out of race weekends to not crash at this year...
I'd let you borrow my now dusty Hawk but you've crashed more times this year than Motofreak has in his life...

Bill, Ya, I requested the bump... If the hawk runs right and holds together I can win the AM races.
Thanks for the offer Trouble. All i need now is some gaskets for when i tear the motor down in case all it is is a head gasket. If you know anyone selling a set for less than retail let me know. I really need to get the motor sorted out within two weeks.
Paul, I ran at Stimilon as Craig Parker. Craig registered and paid then broke his collar bone so i went as him, checked in as him and raced (or didn't race) as him. Daniel was calling me Craig as a joke... To funny!!
I NEVER WANNA BE PLACED NEXT TO 6 AGAIN!!! Him popping a wheelie then letting it down right in front of me is kind of a HUGE pain in the ass. . . made me have a bad start!!
