Never wrote one of these before so here goes nothing.
Friday
Arrived for Friday Penguin Practice, got settled in, went out and worked on entry into turns 1, 3 and 6 most of the day. Other than those three things it was difficult to try to string a lap together without being held up somewhere on track due to the large variation in speed of the Penguin Basic students and the Novice racers.
Saturday
Went out in practice and felt good, finally able to string a couple together but I was disappointed when I looked at my practice times still in the 1:30s
Race 9
Gridded up in 4B, second grid spot in the second wave, wound up getting the holeshot into 1. Led the first lap until #525 Coleman Larlee went by me going into 1. Figured I would try to stay with him and see if I could get back by him. Lap 2 turn 12 had the unpleasureable experience of watching Coleman clip the curb on his way into 12, get squirrely and wind up going straight into the NASCAR wall on the outside of turn 12. Thinking the worst I made the Novice mistake of backing out of the throttle for a short time expecting a stoppage of the race. Got down to turn 1 and realized that the race was still on. Tried to get back into the swing of things but that image was still in my head. Not too clear on when/where it happened but #201 Jake Vader came by me putting me back to second. Trying to get back going again and came up on a couple of guys in 3/4 and got pinched at the apex of 4 slowing me up a bit. I think it was at this point that #226 Brett Larson and #500Chris Aho got by me. I tried to stay with them but was unable to do so and finished out the race in 4th. Looking at the times after the race I was pleased to find myself in the mid to low 1:29s.
Went and talked to Coleman after the race to see how he was feeling and he was looking pretty good, said he was pretty bruised up but up and about.
Spent the evening with the Turn 1A crowd around the fire and under the EZups with the rain coming in
Sunday
No rains = no riding for me on Sunday. Looks like it'll be the classic before I ride on the track again
Got absolutely drenched taking apart the Turn 1A area with Clark, Yodka, Brandy, Katie, Amanda and Bill!
Got to meet some new people, Trouble(John) and darkduc7(Brett), this weekend and look forward to getting to race with them again.
Big thanks to Ynot (Bill) for letting me crash in his trailer overnight Fri and Sat nights!
