10

After two years of not competing, coupled with avoiding being "just" a spectator, I had some free time Friday night so I went up to NHMS on a whim.
I was welcomed at the door and was instantly jacked for $25 for my meager 6 hour visit. It stung but I couldn't have given a shit less. Admittedly, I have dropped a whole bunch more cash than that on completely ridiculous stuff in the past....so the $25 was a drop in the bucket, if you will.
Parked my 4Runner in front of North 10, got set up with bacon pizza from Brookside and a 6'er of Stella Artois and, when he arrived, helped DBConz get set up.
After we meandred over to a fire where I met some folks I've never seen before and talked with other folks I've seen before.
During my time catching up and talking with Brett and a few others, it dawned on me......I'm an idiot for living 30minutes from a race track and not racing.
As people were wrapping up, I went home that night, walked straight to my basement and wrote the words "fix me!!" in the dust that had settled on the tank of my F4i then went to bed. Woke up way too early Saturday morning to be in Boscawen for 7am to pick up wood.
As I was driving I thought about everything that was said and talked about around the fire the night before knowing there is no way I can reasonably expect myself to continue to ignore the passion that I have for motorcycles which had driven me to the point of competing.
I have found that I am able to get around some of the concerns I have with certain things that have been implemented at LRRS in recent years so long as the goal of turning laps in achieved.
That all said, many of you will be seeing my tail section in 2015.

WERA isn't that foolish and you've got ~7 months to crack all the jokes you want, Jimmer.
I made a promise to myself way back when I bought my bike...you know, around the time you thought yellow neon lights and chrome on Gixxers was kewl.....the promise was 17's with this bike.
I will see that through, James.

Goddammit Paul. I'd like to think that I'd come out and join you in 2015...I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I'm around the track...
But I question the time, effort, money, and most importantly STRESS that I'd have to succumb to to get back out there. I want to. But I don't want to.

You shouldn't be charged at all for Friday night, unless you were camping.
Not even on my radar.
You want to, Chipples, and you get out of it what you put into it. One thing I never truly worried about were lap times, for example. Sure I set lap time goals but if I did not get to where I wanted to be it wasn't ever a deal killer. Speaking strictly for myself, I learned, after my first year of racing, that chasing lap times yields a limited amount of happiness. I started concentrating on race craft and once I started putting most of my efforts toward that I shaved time week in and week out.
Point is, live aloha!!!
Sadly I didn't even get that far. Just visited Friday night. CEO's thread and Kitt's thread got me thinking, visiting the track and talking shit with Jim and Brett was the tipping point.

Wish I'd know you were around Friday. I'd have looked for you.

Nothing to bitch about, Mark. I'm not crazy about installing it but make no mistake about it, if the event of helmet removal becomes apparent, the emergency staff will not be inflating the device on my helmet. I alone cannot change their rulebook...actually I was hoping people would sack up and work together some day...but you can rest assured my helmet is coming off using traditional methods. I've chalked up the installation requirement as a nuisance cost.
Unless people are going to agree to work together and do something about having the rulebook changed, I'd rather talk about something else.
I imagine Id have to do a Rookie Race again to get licensed with the hopes of putting down competitive MW Am times in order to skip Nv?

I didn't hold a license from '10 until Aug of '13. I did a Penguin Friday (race weekend) and was able to have an instructor evaluate my riding on the track, and came back as an AM. I didn't slow down during my time off, so I thought it made for me to push to come back as an amature. IIRC, if I came back as a novice, I was going to have to stay in novice for my whole first weekend back racing. I don't know how it's supposed to work, but if you really want to come back as an AM it might be worth trying that route.
Good luck either way, I hope to see you back up there next year.
