LRRS #820 first run
After some prodding last season I decided to give this racing thing a try this year.
Friday started off with the Penguin Basic School. This was my first real chance to run the new bike (Daisy). The first thing I found was that I had a huge air entrapment in the coolant system. After about the third slow lap the water temp was 230°. Yikes. So it was time to pit in and see what the deal was. No big deal, we put some water in and everything was dandy the rest of the day. The school went real well and I got a chance to pick up some speed in the afternoon sessions.
Now for some drama. Once I pulled in I found that I had worn a hole in my lower. WTF. Thanks to Mike Weyant we got that fixed right up at about 10:45… Thanks so much Mike!! To add to the rookie drama Mike Kurtz finds that I am MISSING a freeking wheel bearing. Uh… Where did the bearing go?? Lucky for me I have a spare set of bearings in the kit. With the wheel fixed and the lower set we were ready for bed. Pretty late at that.
Saturday: Spin over to registration to get signed up for some races. Thanks to Wanda that went easy as Pie! Next was my first run through Tech with my new bike. I was a little nervous that I missed something. No worries. I rolled through pretty easy. Cool.
Race 1: Rookie Race. Gridded up in the back row. I got a decent start and came out of 1 in 2nd or third. I made my way to P1 by T3 and settled in for some good going. I felt good and set some good times. Best time in RR 1:25.5. That was pretty cool. Score win number 1
Race 6:NV Rookie Formula 3. Another decent start. I think I had P1 out of T2 with Lou Peck giving chase. I decided to put my head down and see if I could get some gap then simmer down a little. Unfortunately I got a whiff of the Formula 1 wave. I put my head down and made my way through them and managed to finish P1 overall. Holy shit. That was a bunch of fun. My bud Lou finished second. Woo hoo. Saturday finished with me on cloud nine. Best lap 1:22.7
Sunday: Wake up to some nicer weather and some tired legs. This is going to be rugged.
Race 4: NV Rookie 3. Got a decent start from the back row again. This time Lou put the Hole shot on me and the rest of the pack. Great jump Lou. This time Lou had his boogie on. I made my move in T9 and tried to get a gap to settle in. The race went well but my legs were giving up the ghost by lap 6. I had to really relax to keep it together. Things finished up well with me in P1. New PB 1:21.7 on the last lap.
Race 9: NV Starter 3. First start was red flagged. Not cool to see Bill Cool not on his bike. Not Cool!! Restart: Once again Lou beats me to turn one. Squirt my way into the lead around T2. Race red flagged again just past half way. P1 Best lap 1:23.0.
What a fantastic weekend. Way way way more success than I could have imagined. I want to thank all the people that helped me get here. My kick ass garage mates Lou Peck and Dave Olivares. My super pit girl Emma “MotoBoosie” Butler. My sweet wife for driving up to see my maiden voyage on Saturday. The great friends that I have from both ECK and RSP. Lastly the education that I got at Tony’s Track Days.
Wow that was a lot of words.

Incredible riding and great times Adam! I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and watching you march up the ranks.
Great rookie weekend Adam! You forgot to mention how, in the short 4 lap rookie race, you passed all but one rider from the first wave, which got about half a lap head start!

Adam learned to be fast onlineProving to all you doubters that good discussion of good technique online is useful to ACTUAL learning on the bike. It helps if you are intelligent enough to filter the bad information and prioritize what to try on the bike. Adam has done all of that to great effect. AND he has a lot of natural talent.
Congrats Adam!
