NV #107 Round 6 RR

    NV #107 Round 6 RR

So, after being off the hawk for 2 months, I made it back. Missed July's round due to work related issues, and I didn't accomplish anything I wanted to on the hawk while I had the two month break from racing.

That being said, I continued with the usual starting/electrical issue i've been having. Thanks to help from Bill and Gino, I think i've traced it down to a faulty starter solenoid.

Now, first practice felt slow and really uneasy while I got my racing legs back under me. Ran down into the 26's and was happy for a first practice. Second practice went into the 26's again, a little bit slower, but felt much better.

    Race #8, NV ULSB:

First race with my new to me tire warmers. I was gridded at the front of my wave so I grabbed the holeshot into 1 and never looked back. Outlap was a 1:28 something which I am ok with. It can be much better but I'm working on it. After about the 3rd lap, I caught up with the wave in front of me (Ptwins and thunderbike I believe). I was able to pass everyone in their wave except the two lead thunderbike guys before the end of my race. There was one guy on a husky that caught up to me around lap 7, but I don't think he was able to make any pass attempts on me and I held him off for my first, 1st place finish!!!!! I didn't break my PB but I got down into the 24's which I was happy with for being off the bike for so long. The race felt a lot better than practice and it felt like I was starting to get back into my groove a bit.

    Race #12, NV LWGP

First time doing this race and I knew I had my work cut out for me. I was gridded on the outside of the first row, and the two guys I wasn't able to catch in Race 8, I was now racing against. HW Superbike guys take off in the first wave and I'm pumped now. Green flag goes and I get a great jump. A little eager on the gas and brought the front of the hawk up for the first time ever. Not a 12 o'clocker, but what felt like a good, controlled 10:30 or so. It came down nice as soon as I hit 2nd and off I went. My outlap this time was in the low 27's, better than ULSB. Went into T1 at 3rd and followed stayed there until the third lap when we hit some traffic with the HW Superbike guys. Can't remember which corner, but I was able to use slower traffic and get around and into 2nd place. I stayed in 2nd until the last lap. After crossing the start/finish line, I was passed again, into third but new I was faster in the corners. I broke later, and carried a lot more speed into T1, came around his outside and beat him into T1A, then shut the door in T2. Probably the best feeling in the world was this combination of corners, it felt awesome!!! My dad and Gino said he hung with me until T3, when I left him through into T4 and 5. Ended up turning my fastest lap and held him off for a 2nd place finish in LWGP. Set a new PB this round with a 1:23.5, which is .4 seconds better than my previous PB!!!

My lap times this round were getting consistent in the 24's and 25's, and I know I can have at least 2 seconds or more that I can take off. The hawk's running strong (once I get it started) and I'm feeling much more comfortable at speed. Competition is strong in ULSB and even stronger in LWGP. Can't wait for round 7.

Also want to throw a shout out to csmutty. Running some good numbers on that SV, wish I was up in AM so I could throw down with you again and firstlightning (Matt).

Nice!!! If you want to swap out parts with a functional bike let me know. At least then you'd know for sure if it's the problem before you invest in a new one...

Nice work and good read! You would have wooped my ass this weekend - I couldn't find the gas or brake. Get those races in so you can bump. Pretty sweet work for a non starting, 20 year old hawk.

If I can make it to Round 7, I'm going to see if I can bump for Round 8. That'll give me 9 races (10 if you count the rookie race ), with one DNF because of mechanical, and no crashes.

No problem Roland, I didn't figure you'd recognize me.

On another note, anyone have contact info for Betty blue-nose? I forgot to find her before I left last weekend and need to let her know what I want.

Hey Jason, great writeup. I am the guy on the SV who took you on motor and you took it back with skill in T1-2. GREAT move and some fantastic riding, very clean and smooth. I am definitely looking forward to next weekend. Rematch in LWGP?

    Congrats on your podiums!
