Friday: penguin, pretty uneventful, but got to work on some lines at slower speeds, and that helped. The bike held up well, which is a big accomplishment cause I built this thing from a pretty sad state. Won the rookie race (yes I know it doesnt count but it was fun anyway)
Saturday: practice felt good in the morning, and once the races kicked of, my nerves and adrenaline started flowing. I was only eligible for race 9, so I waited impatiently as I watched the cloudy skies.
I went into turn 1 in fourth, and proceeded to pick my way to first for a short jaunt, but then came Jake vader. We diced back and forth for maybe a lap, and then I botched my (4th?) lap and he was out of reach the rest of the race. What a fast little guy! I kept telling myself to just maintain 2nd, but without a carrot to chase I fell off pace. I then proceeded to horribly screw up turn three on lap 6, and chris aho got around me. We then caught slower traffic, and he was able to get around it quicker than I was. On the last lap, I almost had him twice, but again, I was too tense and made dumb mistakes. Coming out of 12, I set up to pass on the outside while he checked up for a slower bike down low, but he still got underneath him with good drive. I was gaining and gaining the whole way down the straight, but just ran out of time and took 3rd at his rear tire. My best lap was a 1:26.2
I left Saturday night for prior engagements
Overall, I had an amazing time and Im definitely addicted more than ever. It was great to meet a lot of you guys, i can't wait for the classic! Thanks to John linn for letting me pit with him, and street and comp for hooking me up with some rubber for next month. I know several places that I can cut some major lap time off, can't wait to give it a go!
Hopefully the entire crew from Green Mountain Road Racing will make it in June...And Doc sucks!![]()

Other sv guys....I'm gonna change my front sprocket since it's worn, should I stay 15 or go 14? The rear is still 45...seems like a 14 might help eliminate some of my mid turn shifts, since I could maybe stay in a higher gear, but would that hurt me as I get faster?
Once my chain is shot, I'll do a 520 conversion but for now just the front sprocket...

It is all a matter of personal taste although I dont think I have heard of anyone dropping a full tooth in the front. I am running 15/46 which gave me a bit of an edge at the time. Now that I am running a little bit faster lap times I find that I am running out of gear in awkward spots. I am seriously contemplating dropping back to 15/45 or even 15/44 just to experiment and see what it gets me.

Looks like you had a great rookie weekend.
If you are not topping out already, I would give the 14 a try. You can always go back the the 15 as you get faster.
