After completing my first rebuild on the RS125 over the winter, I was happy to be back at the track on Thursday for Open Practice so I could break it in and get back up the speed. Well, the morning went fine, where I took things very slow and the motor did fine.
....<blank>....
I'm in the hospital and it's late afternoon! WTF?!? It really sucks being at the hospital knowing you crashed, but not knowing anything else. What happened? Was someone else involved? Did I do something stupid and take someone else out? My wife picked me up and drove me back to the track. There, I started talking to people and piecing things together. At first, I though my transponder had jammed the steering, but it didn't make sense that blocking the bars from turning left would prevent me from turning into the bowl. I later found out that a brake failure resulted in my running off the track in T6 and into the tires. Well, evidently from the few hours of lost memory and the tire marks on my helmet, I had suffered a concussion, so I decided to cancel the 125GP race and went home Friday evening to rest and recuperate.
Well, come Sunday evening, I had enough of recuperating and I was signed up for next day's TTD, so I headed back to the track. Had fun on the EX250 at Monday's track day and managed to salvage a good riding day out of a not so good first race weekend.
Should have the RS125 back in shape for my Amateur debut at Round 2!

Yikes man. That sucks. Glad you're ok.
I know you don't remember what happened or what you did but a word of advice. When brake failure happens in the bowl your best bet is to down shift and throw it in and just keep turning. Worst case is you'll likely low side.
You're in Rochester right? If you need a hand with anything let me know and ill come up. I'm just in Portsmouth.
Way to get back on the horse.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Thanks for the advice and offer of help, Oxx. The 125 crashes well so there's hardly any damage. I should easily have it ready in time for the BoMo day. Sitting here on the couch, I totally agree that turning it in and hoping for the best is the way to go. (Down shifting wouldn't help much on the 2 stroke!) But I'm guessing things happened so fast I didn't even have time to think about how to react...

It doesn't take much nuts when you don't remember the crash! Actually, I do think my subconscious remembers that I lost the brakes. Driving home in my truck on Friday, the first few times I got on the brakes, I had a momentary mini panic wondering if they were going to work or not...

yeah, loss of brakes into the bowl and you're not gonna turn very much even if you try. At that speed, and with no load on the front, you're goin straight anyway. Rest up and always recheck brakes after any wrenching...(not that you need the advise now...)
I'm still trying to figure out how I let that happen. Last time I changed the pads was close to the end of last season, and as much as I can remember, I put the pin back in, as well as the cotter-pin and safety wired it. Now during the winter, I focused on getting the engine rebuilt and knowing I don't go through brakes that fast, I never got around to checking the brakes or even touching them before heading out for practice on Thursday. Did I screw up the safety wiring in some way back last fall? Did the pin break for some mysterious reason? I don't know, but I did fail to completely check the bike over before heading out on the track Thursday so I have no one else to blame other than myself for this. I'm just thankful I came out relatively unharmed and I hope others can learn from my mistake.
Now today at TTD, I was quite sensitive about my brakes on the EX. Despite having plenty of life left in them, I changed the pads for new ones after the FTL session and bled the brakes for good measure!

Thanks Lauren, miss you too! Doing any riding out west? I mean other than horses (and maybe cowboys?)
I didn't tell you on Friday what had happen? My memory must be slipping...
Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll remember you when I see your faces again (Don't worry smutty, you I remember!). There are still many screen names I don't associate with faces at the track yet.
Anyways, my RS125 was with PK all weekend and I was pitted cross corner from him at Monday's TTD, riding the silver EX250.

Oh yes, in my initial report, I forgot to thank everyone that helped me after my crash. I know Heath and Joel helped get my bike back to my pit and picked up my stuff. Big thanks to the corner workers and medical personnel that took good care of me. I wish I remembered who you all were!

Dude, there are no words to explain how happy I was to see you come back for Monday. the bear hug through your truck window may have been a hint.
I'm really glad you are OK. You sacked up big to ride yesterday. Props. I'll see ya next round. My offer of help close to your place was not accident/head injury induced. It stands. If you have an issue, come by. We'll fix it bud.
Thanks Dan, I would have gone nuts if I would have come to work instead of riding yesterday! It felt good to be welcomed back to the track.
