my friend is looking for his first bike, in the $3k range, which would preferebly be year 2000 + newer. He would like an R6 if he could find one in that range, but ninjas (zx6-r) and cbrs (F4+) are OK too. even a 750cc he said. No F3's please. Located in the northeastern part of mass and something for the street (no track bikes) just PM me or post here and I'll relay the information thanks!!
here ya go:
2001 - $2900 - 19k miles - http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/mcd/2526686966.html
2006 - $3000 - 7k miles - http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/mcy/2525205762.html
That 2006 is the same bike I had and I can say I do miss how comfortable the bike was. It may seem big and bulky but it is very maneuverable and fast.
hmm katanas, I never though about bringing those up to him. I will though for sure now. and as far as revolution cycles, I'll have him check them out. btw, it's windham NH not MA lol. I've done business there before, good people and good work.
true or false, katana's have carb problems?
I should have probably mentioned that carb'd bikes would not be preferred. I know some of the earlier r6s had carbs but just trying to weed out the problems before any sale is made. thanks!
Never had a problem with my Katana but that's probably because I treated it as a starter bike and only kept it for 1 season. It was my first bike and it treated me very well after putting 5500 miles on it my first season and letting it sit in the snow/rain etc.
I'm sure the Katana is not something you would want to hold on to for 10 years but ask yourself this question. How long does a bile last in the average persons hands before they trade up? A few years maybe?
To avoid carbs I think you want to go as follows...
03+ R6
01+ GSXR
01+ F4i
03+ ZX6R
00+ TT600! First FI'ed 600cc SS. Mapping SUCKED out of the factory but I got a good map for 2000s now.
Friends don't let friends wave to Can Ams
Carbs are completely fine until they are not stored properly and sit with fuel in them. My last carb'ed bike was a 2003 and never once had an issue in the 46,xxx miles I rode it.
Like anything else, you just gotta be leary that someone didn't hack things up.....like in my mom's V-Star for example. What a mess!
Carb'ed bikes aren't all that bad.
I mean I have carbs on my bike and they're meticulous to get dialed in right b/c they're so large. however to avoid all of this FI would be preferable or at least a stock carb'd bike.
If it's his first bike and he's got more ego than brains and he really wants 600+ rather than a sensible 250 or 500.. Then I'd stick with the SV650, ninja 650, Katana 600, Bandit 600's, or Yamaha FZ6 just because they have a more friendly seating position and have less HP. As the furthest from sensible I would put the CBR f4 or YZF600R deffinately over a CBR600RR or a ZX-6R or R6 or GSXR 600 or Daytona 675 or . Although a Ninja 500R or GS500 are actually pretty close in performance because of the weight difference to the Katana and Bandit. Both the Katana and bandit will be carb'd the 650's can be FI after 2003 for the SV.
I had a Ninja 500R and it was pretty quick 0-60 3.7 seconds 1/4 12.7 seconds. Can easily wheelie it in 1st and 2nd gear. Also crazy easy to handle and turn in. Less lean angle needed for a given turn and very flickable. 100% capable of highway speeds and cruising at 80-90, and going up to passing 100-110. It doesn't have a 180 rear tire, that can be upgraded to a 360 tire with a chrome extended swing arm though. So looks and image may be more important factors. also it's alot easier to find the non supersport bikes for cheaper.

thanks tunertype for all those links, that first 650 ninja is a crazy good deal. could be a scam or just really desperate. I will forward him those and see what he says. as for the rest of you, thank for all the input I'm also going to forward the link to this thread so he can read through and take your opinions one by one for what they're worth. again, thank you all.
Hope SV's are in the mix for the guy too. 03+ for FI.
