It's decent but isn't anywhere near as quiet as the Hondas and Yamahas.
I have the 4000w Champion that has a bunch of run time on it. Eventually I will build a box to help isolate the noise but for 1/3 the total cost of the Hondas, I'd do the same thing all over again.

I like to talk to people. I like to ask questions and get answer from people that I know deal with the stuff on a regular basis. I don't like waiting a week or so for my stuff if I don't have to. I don't like paying shipping especially on a heavier item when it would be cheaper for me to ride 10min down the road. My ups driver sucks and consistently delivers to the wrong houses. It does support the local economy even if it is a foreign product. The shop employs people that are certainly not living in foreign countries. If I do have a problem I can easily go down to the shop and get it taken care of and get my good customer discount instead of potentially sending something back through ups that might or might not get picked up by my poor ups driver and might or might not make it to where it is supposed to go in the same condition. I also get to choose and inspect the item I want before buying it instead of relying on someone that probably doesn't give a shit just grab a box and toss it in the shipping line.
This sets off a very deep debate that's hard to have over the Internet. But I'll try. Since I feel like this faux patriotism is overdone these days.
Facts: we live in a modern, globalized, merciless economy which is strongly biased in favor of information workers / high skilled labor / production and operational efficiencies. Survival of the fittest and smartest is a cold, hard fact.
What this means: 'older' professions such as retail/store clerks/restaurants now tend to attract the not so bright and not so skilled folks. Which means your whole point about "want to talk to people who know what they are talking about and do this regularly" doesn't hold true. You'd be better served reading reviews for the product on amazon or similar, than talking to the guy at the hardware store, who more often than not, is not the brightest. Sorry, I don't have time to waste educating someone about the product I am about to buy, which is mostly the case these days when buying retail.
Fact: you seldom wait a week for the item to arrive. 2nd day shipping is pretty much standard practice these days. Even the baseline USPS priority mail is 2 days for most parts of the country. And most places offer free shipping - their supply chain efficiencies take care of getting the product to you. Paying for shipping and waiting for the product are no longer true.
Fact: 'helping the local economy' is a very slippery slope. You ever shop at Walmart? Stop n' shop? If you truly believe in helping the local economy, you shouldn't be benefiting from any of the price and supply advantages of a big chain. Cut yourself off. Then you get to earn the whole 'buy local' motto. Nearly everything we consume comes from overseas because we have moved on to making/doing different things. You may not like it, but that's just the truth you have to deal with.
Fact: the last thing you said about wanting to touch and feel the product befor ebuying is spot on. That alone is enough justification to continue to buy retail.
south of heaven, sorry I went off on your thread bro, didn't mean to! Its just that as someone who works in Marketing, I hear this debate a lot and people aren't fully informed.

This will be short as is from my phone. I do go to stop and shop. I don't go to Wal-Mart. Either way they employ local people which also spend money in the local economy. As far as retail stores not knowing much about the products. You're right. The big box stores like home depot and lowes don't know shit. Luckily for me I go to a place that only sells power equipment. They do know their stuff. They are informed and deal with the stuff all the time. And I don't care what anyone says. The stuff they sell is better quality then places like the depot for the "same" item.
Thanks guys. I just bought a Ryobi inverter gen. from Craigslist for a good price. I'll be testing it this weekend at Thompson!
