Always loved this bike growing up and looking for one in reasonable condition. Doesn't have to be show quality, but NOT looking for a restoration project. Must look presentable and must run. I am fine with a little TLC, but no time for a full blown project.
Please PM me if you have one, thanks!
best bet is to keep up on craiglist. They pop up from time to time. My neighbor just bought one last week for 800. He got it within minutes of posting. They are getting pricey now though. I paid $2400 for mine and i looked around for a few months before i came to the conclusion that that was its going price.
Whats your price range? I have a buddy with a really nice kawi h1 if your interested. I also wouldnt rule out a full engine rebuild project wither. I can have a motor out and torn down in less than an hour and that was my first time doing it. Very, very simple to work on and split the cases. Chances are anyone your going to buy is going to need crank seals anyway unless they can really prove they replaced them. I was told mine were replaced and guess what? 1000 miles later its dead. They are fairly cheap to rebuild luckily. Piston kits are $150.
Thanks for the tips, rebuilds might be OK skill-wise, but I don't have the time (too many other projects). Just looking for something that is in decent enough shape to admire in the garage and take out for a spin once every so often. I will keep an eye on craigslist.
Wow. You're on a buying spree! ;-)

that guys been trying to sell that thing forever. He's the laughing stock of all the 2stroke forums. All that guy has is bikes that have been left out in the rain for decades and he's trying to get top dollar for them.
That's kind of what I suspected after seeing a number of his copy-and-paste listings.

dontpanic, thank you for taking the time to find these. But as clearly mentioned in my WTB ad as well as post # 3, I am not looking for a basket case project but in fact a reasonably showing, reasonably running RD.
Whoops, should have clarified: I was thinking of other readers, not OP. (Maybe should have started a new thread.)

"I have a partially rebuilt 1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special for sale that needs some finishing to be running. The original owner of this bike
was Eric Weissberg (the banjo playing kid from the movie Deliverance).
I have replaced and or rebuilt many parts of this bike since these pics, but don't have the extra cash or love to finish the project. It needs an ignition. An
electronic ignition is really the way to go. Those range from 200-600 USD.
Price is $1400.00
NO TRADES
I have many receipts including maint records with Eric Weissberg's name on them when he owned the bike.
please PM me with with questions or call
I have additional photos i can email upon request
payment is cash or local bank check.

a little rough but probably as cheap a 400 your gonna find. it would be would be worth it if it was even a little running but without it running its a risk.
