Hey so is my "seems new to me" 2007 helmet still raceable this season? I know its 5yrs but that makes this its last one right?
Please don't take this as me speaking for Penguin or LRRS, but, the date of manufacture is what is looked at. There is a label sewn inside the helmet that has the manufacturing date. The problem is that the EPS liner inside the helmet breaks down over time and nolonger performes as well as intended. This break down in not detectable during a visual inspection. The stitching also breaks down over time, however I do not think that was the primary concern.
My arai has the date stamped n the leather strap . . . I think.
check the manufacturing date mm/yy date stamp on the strap or etched on the Dring....
only good up to 5 years from date stamp.

Ok yeah exactly, good for 5 yrs so 2007 is fine for this season only but not next, right?
You guys are correct. All helmets should have a month and date of manufacture on them. So - your '07 helmet will be good this year until it passes it's born-on date from that year.

which means if your helmet was made 2/07....then no...its no good
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Just as an addendum to this topic, as we have been asked this question, the new Eject system is not required for Penguin School days. This is only for LRRS racing.
