Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
I'm still trying to figure out why NHMS brought the Legends crowd into the LRRS banquet. It was clear they were upset with their "15 minutes of fame" or what little awards they were given. We were seated at a table next to one theirs and two of the guys talked non-stop through the LRRS awards portions, just as a vast majority of LRRS peeps talked right through the Legends awards.
Just because they race the same days shouldn't mean that we should have the same banquet. In all fairness, neither group seemed to show respect for the other while the other's awards were being distributed.

Doc, with all due respect, unfortunately for some it is a harsh reality if they can ride in only a handful of weekends during a season, for example.
I myself have accepted that fact as I have consistently produced front-running finishes in the MW Amateur ranks, even after a full year without competeing, althewhile maintaining an excellent safety record however, sadly, unless I find myself sitting on a pile of money and NSA track time, I do not forsee myself suddenly clicking off 15's in order to bump to EX. Some say that all it will take is a new bike and/ or some Advanced Penguin schooling. Yeah, that's great and all but where's that money coming from?
Regardless of all this, at this rate it will be at least another year before I bump (at my current rate of progress) and get those white plates.....and I admit all this with you knowing full well how I feel about NV and AM championships. I'm not happy with this realization but moving to a LW class, for me, is not an option at this point.
Point is, some people might not have much of a choice but to stay in AM for a while.

I see your point. I honestly wasn't thinking of the MW class when I posted and as you pointed out running MW it is much harder to reach the Bump criteria... BUT if you are a consistent front runner shouldn't you just request the bump? Or is it not the easy anymore?
I ran in a Handful of weekends most of my "Career" and only have 2 Amatuer trophies on my wall. Thankfully, even with the new criteria I would have made the cut. :D

I'd feel "better" about it if I made the cut based on the guidelines that are currently in place. If 16's will do it, then 16's are my goal.
Never been one to ask for handouts, ya know?

I see... although I respectfully disagree in your case and I don't consider it a hand out. It is an attainable goal.
The dilemma as I see it is stay in yellow plates or TRY for white plates. You are safe, consistent and capable. Why not try?

I know the kid who won certainly got faster than me in a shorter time span. so given the same amount of weekends he would have probably crushed me in points but they coulda saved some leather had they picked little ole me :teehee:
that's what I was thinking. I don't even know Rich one bit, wouldn't even know him if he walked by but I was kinda pissed for him not getting that one after earning it.

Pretty sure that guy was drunk but regardless it was pretty rude.
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
any news on weekend daily schedule for 2012
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
To All,
NHMS took over the banquet a couple years ago, and to be honest this was a relief for those(like Cathy Curtin and Steve Aspland) who worked insanely in the past to get it done. It was a ton of work for too few people.
When this happens, there are sure to be some oversights, and these guys don't live and breathe this stuff every day like we do. I have made mention of the overall sentiments here to NHMS, many of which I am on the same page with. It is my hope that next year, all of the things that have been metioned will be addressed. I am confident that it will happen.
The #1 thing in my book is provide concrete guidlelines, so everyone knows what to expect. Those who want to go for the awards know exactly what they need to do to get them. I also agree with recognizing more guys - that's on the table as well.
I'll post news as I get responses from the guys in charge.
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
Thanks for your efforts, Eric. They are appreciated.

Not sure that I can thank you enough for your involvement here on NESR, your commitment to hearing us out & being the "go between guy".

$15k your first year . Including my bike I didn't even spend 1/2 that.
As for the "mentorship program" T1a has done it unofficially for years... It would just be nice to have a little more formal program.
Im not sure where to start. At least in MW its not that easy to reach the bump goal. Its just just races and index anymore. There is also a time aspect to it. I think this year Ive made it to a time where I could request a bump. Ive been getting plenty of trophies on the way there. I have yet to make a full season.
As for the mentor thing. Ive been lucky enough to have had two good racers I can go to. Ive had PK and this season Ive been real lucky to get Eric Wood even if he doesnt realize it. Each I have been able to go to with any questions and I would get answers. Ive talked with both about bumping. If I race next year there is little doubt it will happen but not for the start of the season.
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
i thought to make ROTY you had to advance from Nv to EX within the season. those arent the requirements anymore?

From the '11 rulebook
Quote:
3.4.13 New Riders to be eligible for the Rider of the Year must request
advancement when the minimum requirements are met.
3.4.14 Vanson Rider of the Year award: This award is presented by
Vanson Leathers to the first year rider that accumulates the
most number of points, starting the race season as a Novice and
advancing when the minimum requirements are met (no cherry
picking). Rider character and deportment are also taken into
consideration.
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
Well that last part took Jim out of the running.

Eric,
Now that this process has been taken over by the track are they accpeting volunteers? If so, would you know who I can talk to? Or if not, would you know of some way I can help out a bit? I really would like to give something back to the community. Maybe head up a mentoring program or something? Just a thought...
Re: NHMS 2012 Suggestions?
The mentor program is going to be discussed the next time the officials meet. When we get that all sorted out, I will surely post on NESR looking for volunteers to help....
