I didn't notice that little patch of re-surface to the outside on T12 until I was reviewing the video last night.

Graham mentioned I need to work on my "vision". He may be onto something.

Eric Wood bought up the wheel spin over the white line at start finish with NHMS.
The plan is to treat it with traction material like the T1a white line a couple of years back..
The strip of granite that marks the actual start finish line...nothing can be done about that.
Spinning on the S/F stripe is about as far down on my list as chrome toilets.
It would be fun to see T out on a bike with numbers on it....
Hmmmm. Maybe an endurance race....
And installed or at least paved around an area drain there and I think removed the curb.
I got to go extra slow out of 12 so I had plenty of time to look, but yeah 12 is completely different (paving).
Im surprised there hasnt been more discussion about what Eric mentioned yesterday about a configuration change and a complete repave being on the table to possibly begin the end of this season...
they've been 'building a new track' since I started doing track days in '06. I'll get excited when they break ground.
This...
If I had a dollar for every time there was talk of a major upgrade/new track, I'd have like $42 and still be riding on (mostly) the same track.
Don't get me wrong... the upgrades that were mentioned sound awesome, but I'll get excited if/when they break ground.
The reconfiguration would likely be phase 1, the repave would be phase 2. They want to do it, and personally (this is not official) I think it's likely for both to happen. It's just a matter of when. I will certainly bring more people to NHMS when it happens.
They want to do it? That's a great sign.
Do you know of any "road blocks" that are currently preventing them from making it happen? (Outside of funding? I'm sure the track has the cash, but the ROI probably isn't that attractive)
cant wait to see what a reconfiguration would look like!!
I bet it'll look like a dragon.

After reading through this thread, and riding at Loudon in september of 2013, just completing my second track day ever on the 28th. I did notice some of the changes, especially in 12 and 12a. I will say that I do like a track with character, it makes you have to think a bit more when riding since its not just about picking you line and going. I remember my first track day the instructors telling the class about staying to the left or right of certain cracks in the pavement, well I learned about that really fast.
If they did repave it would be great, but I will say I am glad to ride NHMS in its current state and it seems to be making me a better rider.
If they repave I am going to lose 90% of my markers :-p. Well worth it though.
Any more news on the reconfig since the awards banquet? Even if it doesnt happen for 2015 it would be nice to have fresh Grid boxes painted it was pretty difficult finding them out there at times this year. Hell Ill buy the spraypaint and make a stencil if I have to and get the OK lol
No news just yet. If they do go ahead, there wouldn't likely be any movement likely until we get into early spring anyway. We'll see how it goes....my gut is that it's better than a 50% chance that we get a repave and at least a slight reconfiguration in the next couple years.
EDIT: Somehow I missed that the thread was started in March and had 225 posts when I wrote this. I have not read through all of them.
I'm surprised I haven't seen it already - but I think the divot in T12 deserves a mention on this thread - as long as it didn't go back to being a bump if the divot was "fixed."
It looks like curbing has been mentioned a lot. I'm all for the FIA/FIM curbing all around the track - I think one place that would help is on the outside entrance to (11a?). If they didn't want to flatten that out they just add a couple inches to it you could could clear the grass altogether and land *safely* on the nascar oval :teehee:
Speaking of ramps - the inside of 10 sometimes scares me if the airfence isn't placed in the usual spot. Seems like you wouldn't just drag hard parts there, it would be a rather violent experience if you cut that too close.
I don't know a lot about racetracks / asphalt, but I'm wondering at what point you start considering a wholesale repave. I'm not suggesting that's either warranted or in the cards, just that I don't know but it seems like NHMS is becoming quite a patchwork and from what I hear it's been 10-15 years or so?
From the looks of this article, that might bring on a fight from the NASCAR guys tho:
Drivers on possible Kentucky repave: 'Hell no'
