There have been a few requests over the years to make a new style shift pedal for the SV650 that allows for GP shifting without having the shift arm point towards the ground. It's a little challenging as that requires the shift rod to come off the top of the shifter (or do some crazy linkage, which is not always the best idea). We've got a concept on the drawing board that should resolve the issue. A prototype will be done in a few weeks. Here's sneak peek for those who are interested.

Ahhh, velly nice! I'll have to let the guys know on svrider.com. I'm sure this will get a lot of thumbs up (and hopefully some sales)
It's to avoid breaking the shift knuckle. To switch to GP you need to spin it 180* on the input shaft so that it points at the ground. There have been a lot of instances after a crash where it broke the shift knuckle and/or did damage to the transmission.

Very nice. Is it for 1st or 2nd gen, or both!

Made the first proto and found that we have a little more work to do. Concept 2 is on the drawing board right now.
Much appreciated, Eric!

We have a concept right now that "may" work on a first gen SV (it does not work on a gen2). If there is a willing volunteer out there who wants to test out the part that we have, please give us an email at info@woodcraft-cfm.com.
I've got a whole new rearset design on the drawing board for the 2nd gen SV that appears very likely to solve this issue. There would be two different pedals for standard and GP shift and the original SV shifter would work as an emergency spare (in standard configuration). We hope to have this tested out in the next few weeks.
Thanks for the update, Eric.
I've been crosposting your posts on this on the SVrider.com message board. Sounds like some of the guys may be interested, myself included.
I'm sure you're covered but let me know if I can help... photos, measurements, whatever.

Just an update for everyone. We are starting production on a bolt on shifter that will work on the first gen SV's. With the shifter and a shift rod you'll be able to bolt it on and go - no problem. For the second gen bikes we are prototyping a whole new rearset and should have some parts to test in about a week. This new kit will not make the first weekend at NHMS, but will certainly be ready for May.
Eric, a guy on the SVrider board is wondering if these will work on an SV1000.
