    Re: Crashed after 3 months...

I second everyone else ... since when does a girlfriend start dictating that kind of stuff?

And actually in THIS particular situation you may have been safer on a sport bike because they typically stop and turn quicker, which MAY have saved your ass had you done everything right.

Another point, it may not have been your fault, but it really doesn't matter. Get it in your head right now that you are going to spend every second on your next bike avoiding people's screw ups because at the end of the day its YOU getting the shit end of the stick regardless of fault.

Hrm... getting back on the horse after a crash...

93n offramp - back on 10 minutes later after a dude on a Harley helped me push it back onto the road.
VIR T17 - back on later that day on Degsy's bike. Hurt to put my foot on the floor in the morning for over a month.
NHMS T10 - back on later that day
NHMS T12 - back on later that day. Hurt to get out of a chair for a month
NHMS T3 - back on later that day. Hurt to get out of a chair for a month
NHMS T11 - back on a couple of months later after wrist surgery and PT
NHMS T8 - back on the next race weekend. Sore neck. Whiplash from going into the tire barrier
NHMS T8 - back on later that day. Split my knuckle
93n onramp - back on 30 seconds later
NHMS T1 - back on later that day.
NHMS T1a - back on later that day.
Tree - Spent the night in a hospital. Back on a month or so later after my abdominal injuries healed.
95n offramp - back on 10-20 minutes later.

Not too terrible a record I suppose with almost 10 years of street, track, racing and some woods riding. Done a pretty good job of getting back on quickly.

It's been worth it but I've been fortunate enough to avoid major injury.

Is your GF aware that cruisers typically handle WORSE than "street" bikes? Slow steering, shitty brakes, poor ergonomics (for handling)..

    I reserve that nickname.

Got it after I rolled the flight line golf cart in a clear, flat runway. I figured out how to bypass the governor and was trying to get it to drift. Oops.

    Re: Crashed after 3 months...

The first time I crashed, my wife was also hesitant for me to get back on the bike (although after the police officer helped me right it, I rode it home). I told her that the crash was ultimately a good thing - it taught me what NOT to do in a given situation, and improved my awareness. She was alright with that, and doesn't have a problem with it at all.

How do you bypass a golf cart governor? Seriously, sometimes they are so slow this would be good to know, if easy to do.

And Pete, no turn 2 or 6?

Don't let her use your crash as ammo to further hinder your spirit.
Instead of riding you will end up at brunch with her and her Girlfriends.
    It's gonna be awesome!

Seriously, your GF (and family) needs to get her head out of her butt. You can do all of those things you did on a bicycle (yes, even go 45mph). It's all about risk reduction. Wear your gear, be on high alert, and never assume that drivers will do what you expect them to do - assume they are all jackholes out to kill you. Get a new bike over the winter when you are ready and find a good deal, and don't worry about if the others in your life like it or not. I hate to put it so bluntly, but if you girlfriend is "forbidding" you to get a new bike, what else will she "forbid" you to do down the road? If she is kindly asking that you take her views into consideration, then by all means, do. But, ultimately only you can make the decision that is right for you. And if you do choose to get a new bike (which it sounds like you will), get the one that makes you happy. They all can get you hurt the same, why compromise?

Guys you forget this is his first crash. It took my mom 8+ years of riding for her to understand that it's something ill never stop doing.

The moment that secured it in her head was when she came at the races this year when I was in garage 22 with some great gentlemen that just are a bit older than me. She just shook her head and said "there's no cure huh" "these guys seem older and serious what are they doing here" and I just told her which bike belongs to each one and what classes they are racing in. Now she gets it. But when I was under 23 every time something happened she tried to convince me to quit riding

I wonder how many relationships have ended over something like this..

Motorcycling is-at least here in the US-a largely needless recreational want, not a requirement. Let's face it, most of us have a 'cage' as daily transportation. And the activity most definitely has some risk of injury or death. So there is some degree of needless risk here. If it is greater or less than some other needless recreational risk is somewhat irrelevant.

The bottom line to the OP is: How badly do you want to ride? Are you willing to ask her to overlook the inherent risks street/track/dirty riding bring to the table? And finally, is she willing to accept those risks in exchange for your happiness?

    It's some heavy shit.

My wife sent me this link, and I think it is very appropriate in this situation http://sethadamsmith.com/2013/11/02/...-isnt-for-you/

I know that blog is pretty cheesy, but After you read it, ask her if you NOT riding would ever make her smile as much as RIDING makes you happy.

I have had two end with my racing stated as part of the problem (travel, time, jealousy)! Oh well....next!

If you care deeply for your girlfriend, then definitely talk about this. You can't live in a box or live for other peoples happiness. Ultimately it is your decision on what you want to do and hope that your loved ones love you enough to support you in that!

Better to have the relationship end over something like this now than realize too late it's not going to work out.

Seriously, someone I'm dating is going to dictate what I can and can't do? Doesn't seem like a relationship based on anything that's going to last or one I would want to be in. (Says the single guy)
