Dude, are you a LEO or Ralph Nader or something.....Jeeze, relax!!! I crossed the double yellow because I really could care less (in these circumstances) if I did or not. I gave you reasons why---could care less if you accept them or not!
Do you obey every law because it's the law? Period! Man, I hope not or this world is in a lot of trouble.
OUT!

if you wanna know I'm a professional driver. I just can't understand why you refuse to be a safer rider. my objections aren't really because its illegal. if you read my posts you'd get that I said there are times when I feel its perfectly fine to cross the double yellow. if you want the road to be as straight as possible why don't just ride on straights roads?

Have you ridden those roads?
Do you ride a motorcycle on the street?
Do you ride the speed limit?

Brett. By riding more towards the center of the road when the coast is clear you make the corner straighter which in turn decreases lean angle. Decreasing the lean angle increases the size of the contact patch and therefore gives you more traction while cornering at any speed. If something was to pop up while cornering it would actually be safer to take his line. Just saying.
While it may not be ideal to cross the yellow line, it can actually improve safety if done correctly and safely..

you'd be correct if he was going a lot faster and was at the edge of the tires. He was already riding at a very safe speed and any lean angle he would have had in the sections he crossed the line would not have had much if any affect on the contact patch of his tires. this ain't track riding and not even fast road riding. the speeds he was going and skills I think we can safely say he possesses would mean he could have avoided stuff just as well had he stayed in his lane.

Yep. And I'm sorry for bringing it up in the first place!
Though since I did, here's my personal perspective on it: Lanes of traffic exist for a reason. Ignoring them is fundamentally a selfish act, whether there's oncoming traffic or not. Furthermore, the double yellow line, as CBR929RE has pointed out, is notoriously slippery when wet or even a little damp, and the last thing I want to do is cross over it when I'm leaned over even a little. I view that line as an obstacle, not a suggestion. And finally, when you're riding a twisty road, the point is to enjoy the twisty road, not to post the fastest time. So why would you want to straighten out the corners in the first place? The road is not a race track.
There. That's my opinion on it, and I state it not to argue with anyone but just to explain my original reasoning for making the comment that unfortunately started all this. Now back to your regular scheduled forum shitfight...

I need to head up that way and hit some of the northern NY roads. I'll make sure not to record it and post it here, though.
FWIW, some of you guys will make excellently stereotypical parents with the never-ending, dry lectures you give.

I can see both sides of this, but you line crossers need to calm down with your defense of the act. One thing to realize is there are A LOT of new & potential riders lurking sites like this & when you hammer people who advocate staying in your own lane, all you're doing is giving them an excuse to point to for their own poor riding. The goal should be to stay in your own lane. Then when you get to a point where you've got the skill to efficiently use the whole road, by all means have at it.
But the goal isn't to use the whole road, and you shouldn't be going at a speed on public roads where that is necessary. The point of this is that when I ride I feel a liberty where I am not bound to anything. So if I feel that I want to cross into the other lane when it will not impact others, have at it. Just like weaving. When going down straight road I often like to weave back and forth to occupy my time and to decrease flat spotting the tire. But if there is oncoming traffic I will stop weaving so as to not startle others or create an accident if I make a mistake.
