    Unsafe Lane Change ticket...

How much do you guys think an unsafe lane change ticket would be if it were for one instance? I got one a couple weeks ago I was just about to send in, but I'm startin to think it's for TEN of em.

Now the ticket is for 100 bucks, which I was gonna pay, till I looked at it closer... Under "Description for offense" it says:
    "Unsafe Lane Changes + 10x"

I THOUGHT when he gave me the ticket he said he was just giving me a ticket for one... but what's w/ the "+10x"?. That's my question. Think I'm gonna have to do my research. I'll pay for one, but not TEN. Funk dat.

Although it WOULD be a little weird if an unsafe lane change was only 10 bucks

If it's 10 counts of unsafe lane changes, say bye bye to your license as soon as you mail it in.

If youve got a cleanish record I'd fight it. An unsafe lane change is a subjecitve call on the officers part, so there is probably room for discussion about it.

Yeah, my guess is that it is just a little note the officer wrote for himself so that when you appeal the ticket he can remember you and what is is that you actually did that fateful day.
Did he witness you change lanes ten times?? He's obviously not going to give you ten tickets for what can be viewed as one infraction. But he wants to remind himself that you were being a menace and it wasn't just one isolated lane change.

Yah, if that's the case then I already decided i was gonna pay it. He said it was just for one, but i didn't know what that +10x thing was, if he charged me for 10 or not.

and yeah, he probably did see me change lanes 10 times or so, but there was only one that could have been deemed unsafe. The rest all included at the very least a blinker or a hand signal, if not both, a head & mirror check and were smooth changes, not jerky or abrupt. It's just that there was NO one doing any passing in the left lane so i was going back & forth between the two left lanes about once every 30 seconds or so. Was i going faster than the majority of the cages out there? sure. was I being unsafe? no.... cept for that one lane change where i cut off a guy cuz he was pissing me off If that's all he wrote me up for then i'll take it like a man & won't appeal... but if he wrote me up for TEN of em? fuck that, I'll apeal.

Just figuring out what my course of action is... but like I said, if it's for 1, I'm probably just gonna pay it.

Dude, it's only for one unsafe lane change.
If it was for 10, that would mean that the fine was $10 a pop
(i.e. - $10 X 10 = $100.) Anyway, if it's not going to cost you any lost wages, etc. you should fight it just for the hell of it.

yeah, that's why i didn't question it at first... 10 bucks seems cheap as hell for a lane change, but i figured i'd ask anyway that "+10x" got me thinkin and 100 bucks seemed steep for 1 fuckin lane change. Wish i could get a Franklin everytime someone cut me off

Unfortunately the cop can decide you are making unsafe lane changes even if you signal, turn your head, and allow everyone plenty of space.

He just decides you are driving agressively since you are changing lanes so much.

BS but they will do it, I had it tacked onto a speeding ticket in 1999.

just a thought i fought one like that myself and the judge was in my favor becasue no matter how many times it is one fine. its kinda like if you speed for 1 mile or 100 you can't be charged for 100 speeding tickets. i would fight it and i am sure you will win it.

the 10+ probaly means you were also travelling at least 10mph over the speed limit in addition to the unsafe lane change. Its there to remind the officer he gave you a break and did not get you for speeding also. At least thats my guess

89/4A is a $100 fine... as others have said the +10 must be a note to him for when you appeal it....

daaaamn.... aight, that's kinda what I figured... what is it, just 1 point on my license?

Like I said, think i'm just gonna pay up. I've been riding long enough that I've gotten away w/ plenty, I'll admit that... I've gotten pulled over more than once, but this is my first ticket on the bike in almost 15k miles so i'm not too broken up about it. Not gonna be one to say "WAAAAAH, I GOT A TICKET FOR 110MPH IN A 65 BUT I WAS ONLY DOIN 100! How do I get out of it????" (those people drive me up the friggin wall )

Thanks for clearin that up, Vince. I assume what was said above is correct about it being at the Officer's discretion?

No, it's going to be +2 on your license. any moving violation is +2 SDIP points. Don't pay it dude, appeal appeal appeal, seriously. There's always a chance the cop won't show to court. And you don't get your -1 point for the year if you have any "activity" on your license, so it's like gaining 3 points. Over time this ticket will cost you over a thousand bucks thanks to upped insurance premiums, etc. APPEAL APPEAL APPEAL!!!

Last year I got 5 tickets within 6 months. 4 of them were bike tickets. One of them I never appealed which was a NH ticket, which was stupid of me, and it showed up on my record, all of the other 3 bike tickets which I've appealed I've gotten out of, and I WAS technically speeding and busted in all of those cases. I woulda lost my license for a looong time had I not appealed em.

If i was you i would appeal it the worst is you have to pay it. I have been driving since 1996, I am not bragging but i have had 78 tickets since then mostly from the age of 16-19 for stupid minor things but i have fought all of them and only lost 3. So trust me you should fight them all. 60% of them were the cop never showed or they lost the paperwork. it happens all the time

i feel your pain oreo, i just got a 100 lane violation and 25 fail to give signal. i have a court date on 9/7. then 3 days ago i get pulled over for speeding on the bike. i suck. i havent had any type of moving violation in about 3 years, now i have two, making it very difficult to use the "i never do this" excuse. only good thing is that im a firefighter in the town the court is in, so hopefully that counts for something. well, good luck to you, and wish me the same.

Got an idea and after thinking about it for, ohhh... a tenth of a second, I'd much rather give my 100 bucks to the Red Cross than the Mass gov't.

Sending it in tomorrow w/ a request for trial.
