So, the season has ended , and I'm already thinking about next season (surprise, surprise). I think a 2nd bike is in the cards for me next year. I want to do a few other tracks, quite a few times, and would like something else for LRRS as well.
I know the go-to is a SV650. I rode daviids for 4 laps Sunday, and just couldn't get comfortable on it. I'm not sure if they'd feel better to me if I spent more time on one.
I also rode Lauren's R6. It took more than 4 laps go get comfortable, but by the end of a 20min session I was in love. The thing is, I think I'd have to go back to NV if I got a MW, or do a season of TD's on one before I raced it. The things are just sooooooo completely different from an EX it's insane.
So, what other options do I have for something that will be able to race LRRS in classes that don't step on PTwin (in other words, Supersingles and 125s are out) and will be useful on other tracks as well. Are there any UL or LW bikes besides the SV's that people use with any degree of success? I know Hawks, but they race SVs outside LRRS and get stomped. Jeff won ULSB on a 696, but he's not really human. Do I have any other options I should be considering?
Answer has to be that or violence, right DB?
dont be a sally. get a sv and ride it

I wouldn't be unbelievably scared of the MW classes going in as an AM. From what I've gathered you've become a pretty solid rider and as long as you can hold your line and not cause problems you'll be fine.
7232SuperMegaGigaWatts jumped from ULSB (I think) to MW as an expert and he's holding his own.
Thanks Ryan. I can hold my line fine, be predictable, etc - I'm just slow on the thing. Then again, I only have 1 20 min TD session on it, and I promised Lauren I'd go easy and not crash her bike. If I were go guess, my fastest lap on the MW was probably in the 33 area... I can do 25s (more often 26s) on my EX.
It's also a SS legal 2000... I can imagine what the newer ones are like!
Still, as an AM I'd be on track w/ Greenwood, etc. Him doing 1:10 and me doing 1:30 = less than ideal closing speeds.
Daniel, thanks for your input as well. I couldn't get comfortable on the SV but it went something like
outlap
pit in to clear fog and adjust damper
outlap
checkered.
I'm guessing w/ 20 minutes on the thing I'd have gotten more comfortable.

Wish I knew. I woulda let you throw a leg over my sv. I rode another 2nd gen that was set up similarly and it still felt way different.

MOTAHD!
I know of a couple bikes you could run, for now I'll suggest you try out a Duc 800.
Thanks all the same bud. I didn't think it was a really realistic option until I got home Monday night... now it suddenly seems like a 2nd bike for next year is fully feasible.
That's the bitch of it... I'd like to buy something soon and set it up over the winter, but unless I just decide to deal w/ an SV and hope I get used to it, I won't have the chance to try anything else until next season. As for the 'tard, I'm thinking that's not an ideal big track bike, and I plan on getting quite a bit of non-LRRS use out of the new ride.
Lauren, my EX has some of that too now. It still couldn't hold a candle to your R6.

Sorry, I'm a touch slow today. Long weekend.
I know Daviid & Pete made the switch... part of the reason I was so surprised that I struggled so much on Daviids SV. I suppose with more time on the bike I may have grown to love it. It seems like my options are basically SV, MW or something oddball. Hm... may have to suck it up and go SV.

grab a MW dan and come out to ride with me. I'll be running my 600rr and my hawk next year as an AM. we can stick together out there....
Go SV. You can use the take offs on the EX.
My EX cost only gas and oil to run this year and I used the same front tire all year.

Just out of curiosity, why not a Kawi ER6/similar motored bike vs a SV?
considering only 2 people run one up there. and pretty much no one else where on the east coast really races them. Parts, Suspension setups, In depth knowledge of the bike.
Scott Mullin knows the shit out of those bikes, But if you are not racing at the same track he his, you are pretty much up shits creek
