Guys I got a first generation GSXR750.
It won't fire and start. It was running then stopped firing when under starter motor so I swapped out a dodgy right handlebar control which contains the run button and starter ofcourse. that seemed to work.
However 2 days later it is not firing up again.
Its getting fuel
Fuses are all good
Spark is very dull, not a great deal of spark and even after swapping coils out with both spares and a set of accels, spark didn't change.
It seems to be something related to either the kill switch not working or the bike isn't producing enought power to the coils. Any suggestions of what i could be looking for?
Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated as I have the bike booked into a shop but its a 3 week wait.
I'd start checking for a short in the wiring somewhere .It sounds like you must have just moved it around enough when you changed the handle bar control to make it run and now the shorted wire has settled back to where it was.
Tip over sensor.
Check the wiring (12V and returns) for the coils. If any of them are partially shorted you will get a weak spark.
Is the starter struggling? If it is, you may have a weak battery which can also give you a weak spark.

Regulator/Rectifier draining the battery?

Coils are getting 11.7 volts. I curennty have a new fully charged battery that i am also jumping from a car battery.
I have no idea what a "Tip over Sensor" is or even whether then early models had one.
BostonSVkid it has been mentioned to me about the regulator, I might try changing it today. What does the regulator do exactly? Regulate power throughout the entire bike?
The bike is backfiring upon attempting starts big time. they are short very loud explosions throught the exhaust. sounds like a gun shot.
CAM CHAIN?
BAD GROUND?
SHORT IN THE WIRING?

Just checked the ground from the battery to the engine, cleaned the contact area. tightened it back up, pressed the start button and it initially turned over without starting but when dead and the bike is now dead and won't even turn over. Pressing the starter switch does nothing.
I once had to clean my starter switch because my bike wasnt starting.
As for the regulator/rectifier. It regulates the voltage in the bike. It is finned because excess electricity is converted to heat that is released into the fins that are cooled by air.

I'm pretty sure the early gixxers never had one of those, I know the item you are talking about, seen them on many bikes but I certainly don't have one with fins at least on this or any of the other early gixxers i have.
Update, the fuse blew and it is now back to turning over without firing
