SV 2nd Gen Shift detent spring

So the SV I have shifts fine. Problem is, there really is no spring pressure on the shift lever. It's to the point that if my toe is touching the lever at all, I won't be able to make the second shift since it hasn't returned to the center.

Is it possible for the shifter detent spring fell off or broke?

Never opened up the side of the SV case. Don't mind doing so, but I don't want to split the cases.

Hmm... Haven't heard of that. Luckily you can check easy enough by tilting it on its side a little & just popping off the cover.

Check the linkage yet? If it's gunked up that might keep the shift lever from fully returning to center.
