Beginner sport bike <$3000 for a friend

I have a female friend looking for her first bike. She is fairly deadset at not getting a 250 no matter what I've told her and so I wanted to see if you guys know of any SV,GSF/X,650r or anything like that that she hopefully wont kill herself on for under 3000 I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks

Ninja 500? double the HP and displacement of a ninja 250. Pretty unique styling and if she gets into racing she can race it in the production twin class in LRRS. it's also alot lighter and easier to handle than an SV650 or 650R. The ninja 500 also outperforms the GS500 in just about every category accept for not looking as much like a modern sportbike.

how tall is she? that matters quite a bit. an SV(S model) probably wouldn't be a good first bike for someone under 5'6". i can flat foot mine but have freakishly long legs for my height. if she is shorter than that and hellbent on avoiding a 250 (and if she plans on doing a lot of highway riding I don't blame her), any 500 would be a better first bike for her due solely to seat height. (yeah, yeah, i know you don't need to flat foot to ride a bike, BUT it does help with the learning process)

The shop that I go to for inspections/tire mounting and what not (some of you may know Skip/Granite City Auto in Quincy, now in Weymouth) is selling a 2001 Suzuki Katana GSX 600, blue, for $1,500 (was asking $2k).

recently had carb serviced and new jet kit installed. Pretty much all OEM except for an exhaust. Bike is in great condition.

Nice bike but saying it's only $3000 more is doubling her budget.

Great looking bike and I think it'll be a big hit!

Agreed, it is a nice looking bike. The thought crossed my mind that it would make a great street/commuter ride.

My first bike was a 1000. I have never taken the MSF, and you will never see me in all the gear any of the time. I've died like 30 times because of it, not really though, you're just a bunch of retarded judgmental fucks.

My wifes first bike was 500$...she's already dropped it once...it's a Ninja 250...and I dont' feel bad when she drops it cuz its a shitbox that will be sold to someone else for the same money I paid for it when she is done with it.

An R1 is faster than a Busa accept maybe in a 1/4 mile. Also a Busa won't go the direction you think it the instant you think it like an R1..... *think guard rail*......*hit guard rail*...

I do think the easiest to drive street bike is a 1000. They are light enough to not be cumbersome and the torque and high gearing make it so little shifting is needed. And as mentioned it goes where you want without much need of heavy steering input.

I hope her the best... personally I was very glad I had a 250 when I was learning a few years back. Being a small girl (I am not sure what size she is), a smaller bike was much better for maneuvering and learning the basics. I grew out of it quickly, but the bike held its value and I sold it for the same price I bought it for. No harm done.
Oh well, put some frame sliders on the bike and wish her luck!
