Hola,
I just signed up for this board. I ride ~15k a year on my ST2 and have done a bunch of track days. Last year I ran my first road race and LRRS and just raced again last weekend. I was excited about joining this forum until I read your ride rules. Specifically:
So...my bad. This is not for me! I won't ride in any groups where stunting is permitted...indeed encouraged.7. STUNTS
There is a time and a place for them.
NOT the time or the place:
Through a small town while they're having their annual fair. Also, if the pack is tight...keep it on two wheels. If everyone's stretched out on a straight and you have plenty of space in front of you...by all means, stack it up! Pretty much, if you can think of ONE thing that could go wrong if you were to do a wheelie at any given time/place, you probably shouldn't be doing wheelies there/then. Don't attract unwanted attention, so on desolate roads, ok, and even with a few friendly spectators, but on the main drag next to the shopping center and thru the only light in town a block away from the PD, yer only asking fer trouble, use some uncommon sense. I also find it unacceptable to do stunts on major highways. There are just too many crazy cage drivers around. Also, if someone in front of starts doing stunts, make sure you arent tailgating them. If they loop a wheelie you dont to run over them or go down yourself. Back-off and make sure there is a safe distance between you and them. When considering where to do stunts, remember that 911 could take quite some time to get to you on a deserted back road. That means your lying in a ditch, in a lot of pain, for a long time. It also means your stupidity is now effecting the entire group. If someone is doing something unsafe on a group ride (stunts or not) I will politely excuse myself from the group at the next available intersection. I like my health and my bike too much to put either at unnecessary risk.
This a personal preference, not a moral judgement. Have fun and be safe.
But you won't be seeing me on your rides. My loss I suppose!
Dave
I'm Sooo outa here too, I've been riding in groups with these guys for awhile I didn't know stunting was permitted, Geez thank for the Heads up Dave.. Oh by the way..

I can't even remember the last time someone did a stand up wheelie on a group ride w/o getting at least one stern talking to... nevermind on an internet message board.
If one little rule sways you from participating in what is, in my opinion the most tightly knit, most informed, most knowledgeable, selfless & helpful group of street and track riders and racers in the New England area, then yeah... your bad indeed... But chating with, racing with and riding with the guys on this forum made me the rider I am today. If I were to throw that away because of one rule no one takes advantage of anyway would have been a gigantic mistake.

That rule set needs updating badly. That particular one was written by me over 5 years ago when NESR was a very, very different community.
I love to do things that put me at risk of dying.
That's a good choice, dismissing the site out of hand because of some "group ride rulebook" written years ago that loosely describes some guidelines for setting up group rides.
It's not like we have an active racing community here or anything. Hell, I don't even have a streetbike anymore. So standup willies on the street don't exactly affect me one way or the other. But whatever, this site sucks, I'm going home.
Maybe you should start a website called NESRWOAPSLATL (New England Street Riders Who Obey All Posted Speed Limits and Traffic Laws). Can I be a moderator? I like yelling at speeders. And people without DOT legal exhausts. And teenagers. They're always doing something wrong. Punk kids.

I think stunts are cool...can't do a single one myself but I have followed a kid for 4 or 5 miles while he was calmly and competently on one wheel. He was as capable on one wheel as I am on two.
But, as the 'rule' says, there is a time and a place. And, FOR ME, there is no place for stunting on group rides.
I joined this forum mostly because I was interested in finding more riding buddies. So, silly me for having a look a the rules that are put out there by YOUR forum. I didn't make 'em up and was foolish enough to think that you meant what was written![]()
I do a lot of riding and a lot of group rides. And, unfortunately, have twice seen riders get home much later than planned...once by helicopter out of Death Valley and once, recently, by Ambulance in Vermont.
So, my preference is to avoid groups where risky behavoir is tolerated. My whole road riding strategy is about mitigating risk.
It would seem that this group has an awful lot to offer aside from the group rides! Good on you all!
I'll continue to lurk about and stick my nose in where I might have a chance to learn something useful.
And let me say this again, for those responders who got all defensive and are apparently unwilling to listen.![]()
I won't be joining your rides but that is --
-- A PERSONAL CHOICE NOT A MORAL JUDGEMENT.
I firmly believe in free choice and the right of everyone to associate with whomever they please so have fun y'all and be safe!
Dave
(...ouch? was that the door hitting me? )
since we're repeating ourselves here, i'll do the same.....
I can't even remember the last time someone did a stand up wheelie on a group ride w/o getting at least one stern talking to.
Most of us are also very picky with who we ride with. I regularly go on group rides that aren't even posted up on the boards. As for the rides that are posted, we go over what kind of ride it will be and stick to it. If we say it's gonna be an easy ride, it's an easy ride. If we say it's gonna be a quick ride, it's a quick ride. There's never any "stunt" rides.
Dave, as a fellow racer that frowns upon stunting while group riding, you're more than welcome to join me on a street ride any time. You won't be disappointed.

How do you do a wheelie?
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
oh, i didn't see that one... if i did i woulda yelled at you, shook my finger & spanked you.... then i woulda stolen your ice cream

Hey, I know that guy!NOT the time or the place:
Through a small town while they're having their annual fair.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill
anybody do any wheelies on the group rides?
Sometimes I do.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
You know what. In the 5 years or so that I've been a member on here, I don't think I've ever read a thread about one of the NESR regular members crashing/getting hurt or killed because of "stunting" or wrecjless behavior on the roads. I've never heard of one of our members causing an accident/injury to others either. I could name at least 2 other locals forums I know of that not having anyone crashing and getting badly hurt EVERY single season is just unheard of. So, does that tell you something?
Stick around for a while and before bringing any judgment, get to know our riders. They are GREAT riders.![]()

i ride stand ups all the time with my busa stretched 12 and 250 rear tire...
Oh and Dave... The 2 post wonder. Do a search on stunting and see what it brings up. Most of it will be us belittleing the hell outta anyone that want to be a "stunna".
One of the reasons I am glad I am a part of this group. Well that and most of us can't wheelie to save our lives!![]()
