Hi guys, I just bought an 09 Yamaha FZ1, Raven Gray, haven't even seen it in person yet, its a buy and fly. I'm going to Cisco for some training in Atlanta GA and the bike is about 100 miles from there. I'll be flying down in April for class and to drive my new wheels home, can't wait. I'll miss the first couple rides up here, but will looking for them as soon as I get back. So what do ya think, first time on new bike, drive it 1,000 miles, oh yeah. Later dudes

Did a fly-n-buy from St Pete back to NH with an FJR. It was a great experience. I'd do it again for sure.

Not sure in which 100-mile direction your bike is but if you're able to, make the time to ride thru Suches, GA on Rte 60 (leading to Baxter) and plot a route on up to the Cherohala Skyway. I still have the general route I took if you're interested.

I'm a bit of an FZ1 fan myself. Comparatively speaking, nothing comes close to these bikes.

Yeah, I've ridden before, started Hill Climbing when i was 13 and haven't stopped grinning since. Even tried Ice racing for a season when I was about 15. I'm 45 now. Currently ride a 620 KTM dual sport so this will be a real change. Haven't owned a real street bike since i had my CB550F wayyyy back in the day, haha.

Any tips or directions for nice ride up is appreciated...thanks

I'm from South Hadley MA, about 20 minutes north of Springfield MA. yeah I'll be looking for rides and people to do them with, I have friends in NH that want to ride also, so I figure I'll be heading that way a few times this summer. Got some soft luggage ordered already, and a new helmet soon for my 1,000 mile warm up, lol.

The large ones. They worked on my 2003, but the 2008? Not so much.

Bring masking tape or something to protect the paint.

Ed's from your area as well but I hear he's moving to SC somewhere soon.

Thanks for the advice about paint i was wondering about that, I'm also going to bring soft none slip pads you use under place mats on kitchen table. What would you have picked for soft luggage, i didn't see a lot of choices, and I didn't want to do hard luggage.

FWIW; you don't want anything sliding against the paint at all. Stick something to it and let that take the abrasion instead. No matter how secure you think those bags are, they still move around enough to damage the finish. On my '03 I ended up ordering some 3M protective film and custom-cutting panels to cover the tail section with.

As far as soft bags, I have no idea what to go with. Funny thing is my Cortech duffle fits great on the tail so I guess I'll just take a day some day to test fit sidebags. Until then it's tail and tank bags only and it quite possibly could stay that way unless I hear of something awesome.

I used to live it a quarter mile at a time, but I parked it about 6 years ago and it hasn't moved since, got tired of fixing things, ie brake lines gas lines, etc etc...its got a 6 point roll cage installed, 40lbs injectors, and alcohol injection.

i wish i could be on this ride, but i don't pick up my new FZ1 until April 12th in Georgia, and drive it home 3 days later, i'll be watching for the next ride though.
