My name is Josh and I'm 25. I just moved to Newburyport, MA from Virginia Beach, VA. I went to automotive school in Virginia Beach, started a performance shop with my partner (UniT Motorsports), and am still involved with the automotive scene by starting GymkhanaForums.com. I only have my motorcycle permit and maybe a couple hours of seat time. By next week I hope to have my first bike and a set date for when I'm taking the MSF course. I've always respected bike riders for their hightened sense of "community". A lot of automotive enthusiasts seem to just hate on everyone else. Anyways, I can't wait to get on two wheels and start gaining experience. Well, that's about it so here's some pictures of my car:
as it sits now...
...but about three months ago when I was driving up here from Virginia Beach for the "Subaru-Wicked Big Meet" I ran into a wicked big problem and blew my motor. The car wasn't a good daily driver anyways, so I've decided to just part-out the motor.
Gymkhana in PA
I look forward to meeting up with you guys!

Where are ya taking the MSF course? Ironstone Ventures has a location in North Andover.
I'll be there just kinda "hangin out" Aug 28-30 and Sept 11-13. If you can't sign up for those dates you're welcome to come visit.

Hi new guy. I work in Newburyport, which is quite close to you. However, I don't have a motorcycle, so I'll likely not be much .use to you. Welcome all the same
Welcome, do you own a boat? and if you don't you should get one before getting a bike so you can take Nesr members fishing. Newburyports is nice I am in your neck of the woods alot. Agavé Mexican Bistro rocks.
I'm actually having problems finding openings. Do you have a phone number or link I could use for the spot you'll be at?
Really haven't made a determination on this one, either. I know most experienced riders say not to get a sport bike as a first bike, but I'm looking for the best value in addition to being easy. A Ninja is one of my first choices. Hahahaha yeah, I want a GSXR1000.
Its a 2000. Its a JDM replica lip. And it has loads of handling and go-fast. Well... not so much anymore due to the motor sitting on my porch in pieces but here's a link to my FS thread on a Subaru forum
http://www.rs25.com/forums/f177/t114...train-etc.html
Yeah, I'm thinking about selling it though.
Thanks for the warm welcome y'all. I'm in the market for some riding gear, too so if anyone's letting some go for cheap LMK! I'll trade for Subaru parts and/or a diamond engagement ring! LoL, seriously.

I thought they used orange signals and such up till 99 and went clear for 00 and 01 before the bugeye came out...?
I had an 01 RS a few years back with some work done to it. Never was quite able to stomp 8-cyl vehicles but it ate up many 6-cyl vehicles quite easily. Fun fricken car for sure. Seeing yours makes me miss mine. Lookin' good, BTW.
.....and Josh, if you truly care about your riding skillset you'll hold off on the 1000's for now. You will hear this repeated many times here and there's a reason for that.
My orange corner lights are aftermarket. They used to be clear with an orange insert inside but I swapped em out for the ones you see. Good eye! I have had way too much fun in this car. Once I get my finances back in order and some other transportation I think I might have some more plans for it. For now though, its just gotta sit. Thx for the compliment.
And I was joking about the 1000. LoL. Honestly, I've always wanted to ride a motorcycle but it has taken me 10 years to feel comfortable with myself doing so. I've done a lot of dumb stuff in automobiles and I think I have most of it out of my system. Still not trying to tempt fate though... I'll stay away from the 1000s as you suggest.
BTW, can anyone here help me out in getting my new bike? I'm knowledgeable about mechanical issues and can ride fairly comfortably but I would feel a lot better about a purchase if someone with real experience were to go with me, look over the bike, maybe take it for a test drive and really put it through its paces before I buy. Post here, PM me, email joshuac@unitythroughsport.info, or call 757.589.7886. I'd appreciate it.

Welcome. Bikers are definitely a lot different then car guys lol. i also went to auto tech school and all car guys want to do is argue. bikers just say fuck it lets ride lol
Hey I would offer to help you shop but i live quite a ways away from you probably 2 hours. I know a pretty good amount about bikes and purchasing them so if you have any questions PM me.
Kawi FTW
really think your first bike through and make sure its what you want. i hand never ridden before my MSF course, a month after that i picked up my bike (kawi zzr600) and now i have 7600 miles on it lol.
Just take your time learning being a new rider i had a few scary moments none of them were cause i was on a 600. most of all watch out for cars they suck. You seem pretty mature so you would do fine.
If you pick the bike up on a Saturday i could come role with you

Not saying a liter bike (or bigger ) "can't" be done by a new rider....don't get me wrong. Ultimately it's your choice and money, obviously. A smaller nimbler machine is, to a point, a bit less surprising to handle and tends not to bite quite as hard. The exception to this would be any of the recent 600 Super Sports which simply offer amazing power to weight ratio.
I definitely appreciate all the tips, and I'm definitely going to be looking here for riding buddies soon.
I've been holding off getting gear until I have a bike sitting in my driveway. I know its all for safety but I wasn't trying to have a yellow helmet, red gloves, and a blue bike, etc. Any suggestions on how to go about getting the right gear before or after purchasing a bike? I'm guessing just buy a black helmet and some black gloves?
