Weak in details and start but
Administration trying to reclassify
steel core AR15 ammo as armor piercing and thus illegal
Steel core is cheaper than lead etc.
The EPA has been trying for years to get Lead out of ammunition*
So executive action can/could make almost all 556 223 Ammo illegal turning your AR into an ugly club
* I understand the poor US military is already stuck with no lead ammo.

The story in the NRA magazine about the Army's new green ammo said it performed better overall. What did you read to the contrary?
BATFE is considering classifying XM855 (green tip) as "armor piercing" and therefore not eligible for mere mortals to purchase.

Im glad I didnt buy another 1k rnds like a month ago like I was going to....
Possession of "banned" ammo is fine. It just can't be sold. You should buy more![]()
The news agencies are all over this and being very misleading with the headlines. This is a long ways from making an AR into a club. It's just the "green tips" they are after.
All other .223 and .556 ammo will still be available.
Good thing I loaded up on it a few years ago... Isnt it just steel tipped?
I know of 3 variations of 855.
855 - 62-grain FN SS109 ball cartridge, green tip w/steel penetrator and a lead core
855 "Lead Free" - 62-grain green tip w/tungsten penetrator and a steel core. Primarily used during training in countries with strict lead disposal laws.
855A1 - 62-grain green tip w/19-grain steel penetrator tip and a solid copper core.
Lake City (the only, as far as I know, manufacturer of 855) is phasing out the production of both variants of 855 for 855A1, which in testing has proven to offer better performance under many situations than previous 855 rounds.
Lets not forget the whole reason they want to "ban" this is because the it can be used in pistols.....
just ordered 1k rnds!
$0.318 per round shipped!
Let the hording begin

interestingly enough, the thread is now deleted
I thought you were trying to buy the stuff that the ban is proposed on (Green steel tip XM855)?
No one is trying to ban regular 5.56. XM193 (the stuff in that link) is higher velocity than XM855, and ironically, it usually does a better job going through soft body armor than the steel tip stuff. Also better on soft tissue...higher velocity usually leads to more fragmentation, where as XM855 just pin holes through.
If you bought the stuff in the link, it's not under any threat of ban...but it's better than the stuff that is for 90% of uses.

ammo showed up yesterday!
They didn't ban .22lr and I STILL can't find it at my local WalMart.
