Heard 'Check my brain' a couple times today, kick ass song and eerily reminiscent of old AIC. Hope the rest of the album is as good...
I hope so too. I was pleasantly surprised by the new single. I really wanted to hate it.
Without Lane, I couldn't figure out how they were still going to "be" Alice In Chains.

They are not Alice in Chains. They are a good band, just not Alice in Chains.

There will never be the true Alice in Chains again, it's impossible. They are one of my favorite bands, and without Layne it's never going to be 100% right. But...JC was a huge part of the bands sound and songwriting, so it's cool that the 'spirit' of AIC really comes through on the couple tracks I've heard.
I love the new single, I think it's awesome. I'm psyched to see AIC coming out with new stuff, even without Layne Staley. It just goes to show you he wasn't the only talented person in the band. (Although he'll be missed.)

I always focus more on the music and less on what the muscians are doing, so I'm uneducated in this stuff to some degree. All I know is I dig the guitar rifs.

I just took a listen. Sounds a little less whiny (Layne kinda dragged out some of the words and whined em). Other than that, sounds true to form. I'll give it a second listen when it gets released.
I really like it. The new guy sounds just like Layne when he wants to, but he can change it up a bit when he wants to. Def worth a listen.

Saw JC live about 6 years ago. He opened for Kid Rock/Aerosmith. He was very good. Can't deny the role he played in the band.
