This is a jet engine designed by Honda, manufactured, built and tested by GE in Lynn (where I work) to go into the new Hondajet plane. Its quite a small engine as you can see by the standard size double doors behind it. Im not supposed to take pictures in work but this thing is awesome.

several years ago, I had to meet briefly with a client, he said I'll be out in the garage, when I walked into the small 24x30 structure, I did not expect to see what he had in there, he had a small machine shop, old milling machines and in each bay was one of these that he had a contract to rebuild for a speedboat

I don't have the rights to post any pictures but the BMW S70 variant engines from the McLaren F1's tickle my fancy quite a bit.

A few pictures of the GE F414 jet engine. This engine is in the FA18 Hornet fighter jet. I move these around at work from assembly to test to shipping etc. They are huge, maybe 10 feet long.

These are GE T700 jet engines. They are installed in Blackhawk helos, Apache and Tomahawks. These are small compared to the FA18 engines above.

Here is my Bobcat side by side I use to tow all the engines from assembly to the test faclilty and to the shipping area, etc. The Bobcat (actually a Polaris!!) is a diesel engine so it tops out at about 26mph, but it has so much torque.

Amazing engines-wiki_66_sohc_timing_chain_and_cam-jpgHere is my all time favorite engine. Ford SOHC 427. The timing chain is almost 7 FEET long. You haven't heard anything until you hear one of these rumble by.

The current 6.2 SOHC motor is pretty sweet too. I'm a big fan of that little device on the end of the cam.

    Re: Amazing engines

This summer I visited the Glenn Curtiss Museum in upstate NY. They have a terrific collection of old aircraft engines there.

This is a four-row radial engine producing 4000 horsepower. Kind of blows my mind to think that this engine was designed on paper, using a slide rule. And manufactured without a CNC machine in sight. Or even imagined.

This double V-12 is amazing too. Two crankshafts emerging from a single case, extending into a bell housing that couples them to a single output shaft. Too cool.
