I travel quite often for work and am in NYC on average once a week, sometimes for the day, other times for a couple of days. (I did a little over 100,000 miles last year on United alone!)
Up until this week, I have been flying out of Manchester to Laguardia and cabbing it into Manhattan once or twice a week. As easy as ManchVegas airport is to get in and out of, Laguardia is a pain in the ass.
Yesterday, for the first time, I decided to try the Acela Express to NYC. It freaken rocked compared to flying. For less than $400, I got a first class roundtrip ticket. I can sit in the train and work, relax, sleep, browse NESR. (I'm on my way home right now on the train!)
The airlines can kiss my ass. I won't be flying down to NYC anymore.![]()

+1 - I am grumpy and tired if I fly. I love the train. Drops you right in the city and you don't feel like crap from the hassles of flying.
Convenient, spacious, comfortable, productive (you can do work), decently priced, and hassel free. The conductors are also a lot more friendly than your average airline employee.

That's right, back to a 2 cylinder, 3 cylinder, and a 4 cylinder.
There is also a bus shuttle service that goes between Logan and some of the NH cities like Nashua and Manchvegas. The bus also stops at the train station before going on to Logan and the price is less than finding an effing parking spot and accompanying fees.
The buses are new, clean and comfy. Once you are at the train station ...
How much do you want to bet that using trains as a major mode of transportation are going to explode in use now?
I've hopped the train many times between BOS and NYC.
The only problem is that when you get stuck on the tracks due to unforeseen circumstances you get stuck for a long long time.

I can see that happening big time. Considering the cost of gas and the hassle of dealing with the airlines and TSA, I see train travel exploding in the next year or two...How much do you want to bet that using trains as a major mode of transportation are going to explode in use now?

Still, being stuck on a train would be MUCH more comfortable than being stuck on a plain. I've sat on the tarmac at both Laguardia and O'Hare for hours and that is absolutely miserable...The only problem is that when you get stuck on the tracks due to unforeseen circumstances you get stuck for a long long time.

I agree. My sister lives in Manhattan and have taken Acela in from Westwood. It is a great experience.

There's already talk of restarting the Concord commuter line, starting up here in Concord, NH and heading south through Manchester, Nashua, into Boston and possibly even further. If it is something that becomes real, Rob and I are seriously considering getting him an unlimited pass, since it would save so much with his commute from here to Nashua. I imagine a lot of things that were pushed to the wayside with the idea of huge and convenient (the American ideal) will come back with the rising cost of fuel. Trains, motorcycles, public transportation, etc.
